Suriname has received a Universality invitation from FINA to send three swimmers (one man and two women) to the World Championships. [1]

Suriname, officially known as the Republic of Suriname, is a country on the northeastern Atlantic coast of South America. It is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the north, French Guiana to the east, Guyana to the west and Brazil to the south. At just under 165,000 square kilometers, it is the smallest sovereign state in South America. Suriname has a population of approximately 575,990, most of whom live on the country's north coast, in and around the capital and largest city, Paramaribo.
Paramaribo is the capital and largest city of Suriname, located on the banks of the Suriname River in the Paramaribo District. Paramaribo has a population of roughly 241,000 people, almost half of Suriname's population. The historic inner city of Paramaribo has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2002.
The Suriname national football team represent Suriname in international football. It is controlled by the Surinamese Football Association.
The Guyana national football team, nicknamed the Golden Jaguars, represents Guyana in international football and is controlled by the Guyana Football Federation. It is one of three South American nations to be a member of the Caribbean Football Union of CONCACAF alongside Suriname and French Guiana. Until the independence of Guyana in 1966, it competed as British Guiana. They qualified for the Caribbean Nations Cup in 1991, coming fourth, and in 2007. Guyana has never qualified for the FIFA World Cup, but on 23 March 2019 they qualified for the first time for the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Aron Mohamed Winter is a Dutch former professional football midfielder and current assistant manager of Greece national football team. He has played for Ajax and Sparta Rotterdam in the Netherlands, for Italian sides Lazio and Internazionale, and for the Netherlands national team.
Surinam Airways, also known by its initials SLM, is the flag carrier of Suriname, based in Paramaribo. It operates regional and long-haul scheduled passenger services. Its hub is at Johan Adolf Pengel International Airport (Zanderij). Surinam Airways is wholly owned by the Government of Suriname, although plans have been made in the past to sell it.
Letitia Alma Vriesde is a female former track and field athlete from Suriname, who specialised in the 800 metres but was also successful over 1500 metres. She is the first sportsperson from Suriname to compete at five Olympic Games. She won a silver medal at the 1995 World Championships and a bronze medal at the 2001 World Championships. Vriesde holds the South American records for the 800 metres, 1000 metres and 1500 metres and also for the 3000 metres (indoors).
The Suriname national cricket team is the team that represents the Republic of Suriname in international cricket. The team is organised by the Surinaamse Cricket Bond, which has been an associate member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) since 2011.
The Topklasse is the highest football championship for clubs run by the Surinaamse Voetbal Bond. The Topklasse is at the top of the system of Surinamese football championships. The league currently comprises twelve teams and operates a system of promotion and relegation. Seasons run from November to June of the next year, with teams playing 22 games in the regular season. The league was known as the Hoofdklasse but became Topklasse for the season of 2016/2017 and upcoming seasons. The Hoofdklasse name is now used by the former Eerste Klasse, the second division of Suriname.
The Curaçao national football team represents Curaçao in International association football and is controlled by the Curaçao Football Federation.

The 17th FINA World Championships were held in Budapest, Hungary from 14 to 30 July 2017.

Suriname competed at the 2013 World Championships in Athletics in Moscow, Russia, from 10 to 18 August 2013. A team of one athlete was announced to represent the country in the event.
Jaïr Tjon En Fa is a Surinamese male track cyclist. He began cycling at the age of 13 in 2007 in his home country Suriname. He competed in the sprint event at the 2013 UCI Track Cycling World Championships and also at the 2016 UCI Track Cycling World Championships – Men's sprint where he reached the 1/16th Final. At the 2017 UCI Track Cycling World Championships – Men's sprint he reached the 1/8th Final. He participated at the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games in Veracruz, Mexico and won bronze in the Elite Sprint. He participated in the 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto, Ontario, Canada where he was ranked 9th in the Men's Sprint and 6th in the Men's Keirin.
2017 South American Championships in Athletics was the 50th edition of the biennial athletics competition between South American nations. The event was held in Luque, near Asunción, Paraguay, from 23 to 25 June at the Pista Comité Olímpico Paraguayo. It was the first time this competition was held in that country.
Suriname competed at the 2017 World Championships in Athletics in London, Great Britain, from 4–13 August 2017.
Suriname competed at the 2019 World Aquatics Championships in Gwangju, South Korea from 12 to 28 July.
Suriname is expected to compete at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Originally scheduled to take place from 24 July to 9 August 2020, the Games have been postponed to 23 July to 8 August 2021, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. It will be the nation's fourteenth appearance at the Summer Olympics.
