Denmark are set to compete at the 2017 World Aquatics Championships in Budapest, Hungary from 14 July to 30 July 2017.

In March 2017, Jeanette Ottesen announced that she would not seek qualification for the Championships, as she would focus on the short course season in the fall, culminating in the European Championships on home soil. [1] Later, Ottesen would go on to announce her pregnancy and a longer hiatus from swimming. [2]
In April, Mie Nielsen withdrew after having met the qualification criteria for the 50 and 100 metres backstroke, citing a lack of motivation and fatigue following the previous summer's Olympics. [3]

Sarah Fredrika Sjöström is a Swedish competitive swimmer specialising in the sprint freestyle and butterfly events and one of the most decorated swimmers of all time.
Jeanette Ottesen is a Danish competitive swimmer who participated at the 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016 and 2020 Summer Olympics. In total, she has won 50 international medals.
Örn Arnarson is a swimmer from Iceland. He won his first major title in 1998 at the European SC Championships in Sheffield. There he captured the title in the 200 m backstroke.
Marco Antonio Loughran is an English-born British competitive swimmer who has represented Great Britain at the Olympics and FINA world championships, European Championships and Wales in the Commonwealth Games. He has also competed under Team Europe at Duel in the Pool 2011.

Pál Joensen is a Faroese elite swimmer. He was born in Vágur, Suðuroy, Faroe Islands. He has won World and European Championship medals. His bronze medal in the men's 1500 metre freestyle at the 2012 FINA World Swimming Championships in Istanbul was the first medal won by a Faroese swimmer at the World Aquatic Championships.
Denmark competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, from 27 July to 12 August 2012. The National Olympic Committee and Sports Confederation of Denmark sent the nation's second largest delegation to the Games after the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. A total of 113 athletes, 63 men and 50 women, competed in 17 sports, although two additional athletes played as team reserves. Handball was the only team-based sport in which Denmark was represented in at these Olympic games.
Rikke Møller Pedersen is a Danish competitive swimmer specialising in breaststroke and from 2013 to 2021 world record holder in the 200 m breaststroke (2:19.11).
Mie Østergaard Nielsen is a Danish former competitive swimmer who holds the Danish record in several backstroke events.
Pernille Blume is a Danish former swimmer specializing in sprint freestyle events. She competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics. At the 2016 Summer Olympics she was the gold medalist in the women's 50 metre freestyle and won a bronze medal in the women's 4 × 100 metre medley relay where she swam the freestyle leg of the relay in both the prelims and the final. She also competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics, winning a bronze medal in the 50 metre freestyle.
Dorothea Brandt is a German swimmer, who specialized in sprint freestyle and breaststroke events. She is a multiple-time German champion, a fourteen-time medalist at the European Short Course Swimming Championships, and a semi-finalist in the 50 m freestyle at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. Brandt currently holds the short-course German record time of 23.74 seconds in the same discipline.

Denmark competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 5 to 21 August 2016. Danish athletes have appeared in every edition of the Summer Olympic Games throughout the modern era, except for the sparsely attended 1904 Summer Olympics in St. Louis. The Danish team consisted of 120 athletes, 79 men and 41 women, across sixteen sports. Before the start of the games, DIF sat an official medal goal of 10 medals for the Rio games.
Denmark first participated at the FINA World Aquatics Championships at the third championships in 1978 when it was held in West Berlin, and has participated in every championships since then.
The women's 4 × 100 metre medley relay event at the 2016 Summer Olympics took place on 12–13 August at the Olympic Aquatics Stadium in Rio de Janeiro. By winning gold, the U.S. women brought home America's 1000th gold medal in the nation's Summer Olympics history.

Magnus Jákupsson is a professional swimmer who swam for the Faroe Islands until 2012 and for Denmark since 2013. He is also swimming for Farum Svømmeklub since March 2015. Earlier he swam for the Danish clubs SIGMA Nordsjælland and Vestegnens Aqua Team (VAT) and for the Faroese club Havnar Svimjifelag. Until 2012 he held several Faroese records, he holds the second most Faroese men's swimming records, after Pál Joensen. His Faroese records are in backstroke, individual medley and butterfly. He moved to Denmark in 2011, and the following year he changed his swimming nationality to Danish. After that he can only set Danish records, not Faroese, and he can only represent Denmark in swimming competitions. Until he changed swimming nationality he was the record holder of six individual Faroese records on short course and eight individual Faroese records on long course.

Originally scheduled to take place from 24 July to 9 August 2020, the Games were postponed to 23 July to 8 August 2021, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Danish athletes have appeared in every edition of the Summer Olympic Games, with the exception of the 1904 Summer Olympics in St. Louis. Before the start of the games, DIF sat an official medal goal of 8–10 medals for the Tokyo games.
Matilde Schrøder is a Danish swimmer. She won a bronze medal at the 2016 World Championships in the 4x50 m medley.
