Sri Lanka competed at the 2017 World Aquatics Championships in Budapest, Hungary from 14 July to 30 July. The team consisted of four participants and went medalless during the competition.
The 17th FINA World Championships were held in Budapest, Hungary from 14 to 30 July 2017.
Budapest is the capital and the most populous city of Hungary, and the tenth-largest city in the European Union by population within city limits. The city has an estimated population of 1,752,286 over a land area of about 525 square kilometres. Budapest is both a city and county, and forms the centre of the Budapest metropolitan area, which has an area of 7,626 square kilometres and a population of 3,303,786, comprising 33% of the population of Hungary.
Sri Lanka received Universality invitations from FINA to send four swimmers (two men and two women) to the World Championships. [1] [2] [3] [4] Matthew Abeysinghe was initially selected on the entry list of his respective events, but did not compete.
FINA is the international federation recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for administering international competition in water sports. It is one of several international federations which administer a given sport or discipline for the IOC and international community. It is based in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Matthew Abeysinghe is a Sri Lankan medal winning swimmer who has represented his country at numerous international competitions. He is the current Sri Lankan record holder in the 50m freestyle (22.28), 100m freestyle (49.11), 200m freestyle (1:50.97 ), 400m freestyle (4:03.90), 1500 freestyle (16:23.61), 50 backstroke (26.94), 200 individual medley (2:07.33), 400 individual medley (4:40.47) and 100m butterfly (54.71). He also hold all the freestyle sc national records and many other as well. He was the leading gold medalist at the 12th South Asian Games for Sri Lanka in India. He represented Sri Lanka in the Youth Olympics in 2014 and was ranked 13th overall in Boys' 100-metre freestyle and 15th in the Boys' 200-metre freestyle. He became the first Sri Lankan swimmer in history to earn a FINA World Championships qualifying standard.

Sri Lanka competed at the 2013 World Aquatics Championships in Barcelona, Spain between 19 July and 4 August 2013.
Kyle Abeysinghe is a Sri Lankan national swimmer who has represented his country at several international competitions. His first time representing Sri Lanka was at the FINA Youth Programme in Doha, Qatar in 2014. Since then he has represented Sri Lanka at the 2015 Junior World Swimming Championships held in Singapore, the 2016 South Asian Games held in Guwahati, India, the 2016 South Asian Aquatic Championships held in Colombo, Sri Lanka and the 2016 World Swimming Championships held in Windsor, Canada. In Windsor, Abeysinghe broke two national records in the 200 meter Individual Medley (IM) and the 200 meter Freestyle.The 200m IM record was previously held by 2012 London Olympian Heshan Unamboowe and the 200m Freestyle record was held by his elder brother, 2016 Rio Olympian Matthew Abeysinghe. At the 2016 South Asian Aquatic Championships he won 4 gold medals and 1 silver medal in his individual events. In addition he helped Sri Lanka secure 3 gold medals and 2 silver medals in the 5 available relays. Kyle Abeysinghe currently lives in Colombo, Sri Lanka and attends Wycherley International School. He trains under swim coach and father Manoj Abeysinghe at the Killer Whale Aquatic Club (KWA).

Afghanistan competed at the 2017 World Aquatics Championships in Budapest, Hungary from 14 July to 30 July. This marked the first appearance for the nation at the World Aquatics Championships.
The swimming competitions at the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games in Nassau, The Bahamas took place from 19 to 22 July at the Betty Kelly Kenning Swim Complex. A total of 184 athletes from 45 nations contested 35 different events. Each Commonwealth Games Association was allowed to enter up to two swimmers and one relay per event. In the Games, age limits set by the Fédération Internationale de Natation (FINA) for world Junior competitions were followed, according to which the age limit for boys is set to 15–18 years and for girls its 14–17 years of age.
