The Montenegrin Second League of Water Polo is the lower water polo league in Montenegro. It is organized by the Water Polo and Swimming Federation of Montenegro. League is playing during the summer months.

History

Before Montenegrin independence, competition was known as a Montenegrin Republic Championship (3rd tier) or Montenegrin Amateur League. Since 2006, its name is Second Montenegrin League.

League is playing from July to August, and participants are mainly clubs from Bay of Kotor. Other clubs which played in the past were from Budva, Podgorica and Nikšić.

Champions

Since 2006, five different clubs won the champion title of Montenegrin Second League. Most successful was VPK Bokelj from Baošići with six titles.

Andrija Prlainović Serbian water polo player

Andrija Prlainović is a Serbian water polo player. He was a member of the Serbia men's national water polo teams that won bronze medals at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics and gold medals in 2016 and 2020. He also held the world title in 2009 and 2015 and the European title in 2006, 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018. Prlainović was born in Dubrovnik, Croatia and raised in Herceg Novi, Montenegro, where he came up through the PVK Jadran youth system. In 2011, he won the LEN Euroleague with VK Partizan and in 2013 with Red Star Belgrade, where he was one of the best scorers.

Denis Šefik is Serbian water polo player who plays for VK Radnički. He represented the Serbia and Montenegro national team until 2006, Serbian national team until 2008 and since 2010, represents the Montenegrin national team.

Mlađan Janović is a Montenegrin water polo player. He currently plays for AN Brescia and he is a long-standing member of the Montenegrin national water polo team. He was part of the Montenegro national team that was crowned European Champion at the 2008 European Championship in Málaga.

Andrija Popović is a Montenegrin nationalist and liberal politician and former professional water polo player. He is the president of the Liberal Party of Montenegro. Popović lives in Kotor, Montenegro. He is married to his wife Nevenka and has three children, Jelena, Andrea and Darja.

The Montenegrin Derby is the main football match in Montenegro, between the teams from the two biggest Montenegrin cities. Rivals are FK Budućnost from Podgorica and FK Sutjeska from Nikšić, two most popular sports societies in Montenegro. The rivalry is present in football and basketball.
Two clubs played their derbies in Montenegrin Championship, First League of SFR Yugoslavia, FR Yugoslavia and Serbia and Montenegro, and today, four times on one season, in Montenegrin First League.

The Montenegrin Women's Volley League, is the highest professional women's volleyball league in Montenegro. It is run by the Montenegrin Volleyball Federation.

The Montenegrin volleyball Cup is the national volleyball cup for men teams played in Montenegro. Inaugural season of Cup is held on season 2006-07, after the independence of Montenegro.

Montenegrin water polo clubs have participated in the LEN competitions since the season 1986-97.
The first team which ever competed at the European cups was VK Primorac Kotor. Except them, in LEN competitions played also PVK Jadran Herceg Novi, VK Budva, VA Cattaro Kotor and PVK Val Prčanj.
The biggest success in the history of Montenegrin waterpolo was that of VK Primorac, who won the title in LEN Champions League 2009. Another Montenegrin holder of European trophy is VA Cattaro.

Aleksa Ukropina is a Montenegrin water polo player. Aleksa started playing water polo at PVK Jadran, and he is a member of a first squad since 2013.
