Mount Capley

Mount Capley ( 79°32′S83°13′W / 79.533°S 83.217°W / -79.533; -83.217 Coordinates: 79°32′S83°13′W / 79.533°S 83.217°W / -79.533; -83.217 ) is a peak, 1,810 metres (5,940 ft) high, in the Nimbus Hills of the Heritage Range. It was mapped by the United States Geological Survey from surveys and from U.S. Navy air photos, 1961–66, and named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names for Lieutenant Commander Joe H. Capley, U.S. Navy, pilot on photographic flights over Marie Byrd Land and Ellsworth Land during Operation Deep Freeze 1965 and 1966.

Nimbus Hills is a rugged line of hills and peaks about 14 nautical miles (26 km) long, forming the southeast part of Pioneer Heights in the Heritage Range, Ellsworth Mountains. Mapped by United States Geological Survey (USGS) from ground surveys and U.S. Navy air photos, 1961-66. Named by Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) after the National Aeronautics and Space Administration weather satellite, Nimbus, which took photographs of Antarctica from approximately 500 nautical miles (900 km) above earth on September 13, 1964.

Heritage Range mountain range

The Heritage Range is a major mountain range, 160 km (99 mi) long and 48 km (30 mi) wide, situated southward of Minnesota Glacier and forming the southern half of the Ellsworth Mountains in Antarctica. The range is complex, consisting of scattered ridges and peaks of moderate height, escarpments, hills and nunataks, with the various units of relief set off by numerous intervening glaciers.

It was discovered and photographed on January 13, 1956 on a US Navy transcontinental plane flight from McMurdo Sound to Weddell Sea and return.

Ellen Glacier glacier in Antarctica

The Ellen Glacier is a glacier in the central Sentinel Range of the Ellsworth Mountains of Antarctica. It drains the eastern slopes of Mount Anderson and Long Gables and flows generally southeast for 22 nautical miles to Barnes Ridge, where it leaves the range and enters the south flowing Rutford Ice Stream.

Usarp Mountains

The Usarp Mountains is a major Antarctic mountain range, lying westward of the Rennick Glacier and trending N-S for about 190 kilometres (118 mi). The feature is bounded to the north by Pryor Glacier and the Wilson Hills. Its important constituent parts include Welcome Mountain, Mount Van der Hoeven, Mount Weihaupt, Mount Stuart, Mount Lorius, Smith Bench, Mount Roberts, Pomerantz Tableland, Daniels Range, Emlen Peaks, Helliwell Hills and Morozumi Range.

Bartley Glacier glacier in Antarctica

Bartley Glacier is a hanging glacier on the south wall of Wright Valley in the Asgard Range of Victoria Land, just west of Meserve Glacier. It was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names for construction driver Ollie B. Bartley, U.S. Navy, who was killed on January 14, 1957 when the vehicle (weasel) he was driving dropped through the sea ice at Hut Point, McMurdo Sound.

Wells Glacier is a glacier 9 nautical miles west of Cape Brooks, flowing north into New Bedford Inlet in Palmer Land. Mapped by United States Geological Survey (USGS) from ground surveys and U.S. Navy air photos, 1961–67. Named by Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) for James T. Wells, storekeeper with the South Pole Station winter party in 1967.

Guerrero Glacier

Guerrero Glacier is a glacier about 7 nautical miles (13 km) long in Doyran Heights, draining from the southeast slopes of Mount Havener southwest of Beloslav Peak to the south side of Taylor Spur, in the southeast part of the Sentinel Range, Ellsworth Mountains, Antarctica. It was first mapped by the United States Geological Survey from surveys and U.S. Navy air photos, 1957–59, and was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names for John F. Guerrero, a meteorologist at South Pole Station in 1957.

Mount Dolence is a remarkably spired bare rock mountain, 1,950 metres (6,400 ft) high, located in the northwestern extremity of the Enterprise Hills and separated from the Edson Hills by the upper part of Union Glacier, in the Heritage Range, Ellsworth Mountains. It was named by the University of Minnesota Ellsworth Mountains Party, 1962–63, for Jerry D. Dolence, a geologist and a member of the party.

Pioneer Heights is a group name in the Heritage Range, Ellsworth Mountains, encompassing the large area of hills, ridges and peaks located eastward of Schneider and Schanz Glaciers and between Splettstoesser and Union Glaciers. Among these features are the Inferno Ridge, the Nimbus Hills, Gross, Buchanan and Collier Hills. The Pioneer Heights were mapped by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) from ground surveys and U.S. Navy air photos from 1961-66. The name was applied by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) in association with the name Heritage Range.

Driscoll Glacier glacier in Antarctica

Driscoll Glacier is a glacier 13 nautical miles (24 km) long in the Heritage Range, draining southeast between the Collier Hills and the Buchanan Hills to enter Union Glacier. It was mapped by the United States Geological Survey from surveys and U.S. Navy air photos, 1961–66, and was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names for Commander Jerome M. Driscoll, an administration officer with U.S. Navy Squadron VX-6 during Operation Deep Freeze 1965.

Frankenfield Glacier glacier in Antarctica

Frankenfield Glacier is a small glacier in the northeast part of Noville Peninsula, Thurston Island, in Antarctica. It flows east-northeast to the Bellingshausen Sea between Mount Feury and Mulroy Island. The glacier was first roughly delineated from air photos taken by U.S. Navy Operation Highjump in December 1946, and was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names for Lieutenant Chester Frankenfield, a meteorologist on the U.S. Navy Bellingshausen Sea Expedition, who established an automated weather station on Thurston Island in February 1960.

Hale Glacier glacier in Antarctica

Hale Glacier is a glacier about 6 nautical miles (11 km) long, located just east of Mount Simpson on Thurston Island, Antarctica, and flowing southwest to the Abbot Ice Shelf in Peacock Sound. It was delineated from air photos taken by U.S. Navy Squadron VX-6 in January 1960, and was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) for Lieutenant Bill J. Hale, U.S. Navy, a helicopter pilot aboard USS Burton Island who made exploratory flights to Thurston Island in February 1960.

Mount Harry is a mountain 14 nautical miles (26 km) southeast of the FitzGerald Bluffs, Ellsworth Land, Antarctica. It is western-most in a chain of small summits lying south-eastward of the bluffs. The feature lies within a group of nunataks photographed by Lincoln Ellsworth on November 23, 1935. It was mapped by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) from surveys and U.S. Navy aerial photographs from 1961–66, and was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names for Jack L. Harry, a USGS topographic engineer and a member of the Marie Byrd Land Survey Party of 1967–68.

Hyde Glacier glacier in Antarctica

Hyde Glacier is a short glacier flowing east through the Edson Hills to join Union Glacier, in the Heritage Range, Antarctica. It was mapped by the United States Geological Survey from surveys and U.S. Navy air photos, 1961–66, and was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names for William H. Hyde, an ionospheric scientist at Little America V Station in 1958.

Hough Glacier glacier in Antarctica

Hough Glacier is a glacier in central Doyran Heights in the Sentinel Range of Ellsworth Mountains, Antarctica, rising just south of Mount Tuck and flowing east-southeast for 10 nautical miles between Guerrero Glacier and Remington Glacier. It was first mapped by the United States Geological Survey from surveys and U.S. Navy air photos, 1957–59, and was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names for William S. Hough, who made ionosphere studies at South Pole Station in 1957.

Ragle Glacier is a small glacier that drains the west end of the Fosdick Mountains, between Mounts Ferranto and Avers, and flows northwest to Block Bay, in Marie Byrd Land. The glacier was photographed by the United States Antarctic Service (USAS) (1939–41), led by Admiral Byrd, and was mapped by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) from surveys and U.S. Navy air photos (1959–65). Named for Dr. B. Harrison Ragle, Admiral Byrd's personal physician in the late 1930s, who made financial contributions toward purchase of first aid equipment and medical supplies for USAS (1939–41) and was a consultant on medical matters for that expedition.

Mount Rodger is a sharp peak, 1,410 m, at the northwest end of Collier Hills in the Heritage Range in Antarctica. It was mapped by United States Geological Survey (USGS) from surveys and U.S. Navy air photos, 1961–66 and named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) for Rodger A. Brown, meteorologist at Little America V Station in 1958.

Larson Valley is a relatively smooth, ice-filled valley between the south end of Inferno Ridge and Mhire Spur in the Heritage Range, Antarctica. It was mapped by the United States Geological Survey from surveys and U.S. Navy air photos 1961–66, and was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names for equipment operator D. L. Larson, U.S. Navy, a snow removal operator at Williams Field, McMurdo Sound, during Operation Deep Freeze 1965 and 1966.

Rullman Peak is a peak, 1,910 m, located just south of Grimes Glacier in the Anderson Massif, Heritage Range. It was mapped by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) from surveys and U.S. Navy air photos from 1961-66. It was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) for Chief Equipment Operator Gerald D. Rullman of the United States Navy, the direct supervisor of the crew that first pierced the Ross Ice Shelf at 160 ft during U.S. Navy Operation Deepfreeze in 1966. The drilling was accomplished near the Dailey Islands.
