The Samjhauta Express was a twice-weekly train, Thursday and Monday, that ran between Delhi and Attari in India and Lahore in Pakistan. The word Samjhauta means "agreement", "accord" and "compromise" in Hindi–Urdu language.
Wagah, also spelled Wagha, is a village and union council located in the WahgaZone near Lahore City District, Pakistan. The town is famous for the Wagah border ceremony and also serves as a goods transit terminal and a railway station between Pakistan and India. Wahga is situated 600 metres (2,000 ft) west of the border and lies on the historic Grand Trunk Road between Lahore and Amritsar in India. The border is located 24 kilometres (15 mi) from Lahore and 32 kilometres (20 mi) from Amritsar. It is also 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) from the bordering village of Attari, India. The Wagah ceremony takes place every evening.
The Thar Express was an international passenger train that ran between the Bhagat Ki Kothi a suburban area of Jodhpur in the Indian State of Rajasthan and Karachi Cantonment of Karachi in the Pakistani Province of Sindh. The name of the train is derived from the Thar Desert a sub-continental desert, which lies in the north-western part of the Indian subcontinent and ranks 17th in the world covering an area of 200,000 km2 (77,000 sq mi).
Khokhropar or Khokhrapar is a border town situated in Tharparkar District, Sindh, Pakistan. It is located at 25°41 North 70°12 East and has an altitude of 71 metres (233 ft).

Hussainiwala is a village near Firozpur city in Firozpur district in Punjab state, India. It lies near the bank of the Sutlej river. The village is on the border with Pakistan, opposite the Pakistani village of Ganda Singh Wala. It is a border crossing between India and Pakistan that is currently closed, however a daily joint beating retreat border ceremony is held by the two nations. The village is popular for the Hussainiwala National Martyrs Memorial.
Attari, also spelled Atari, is a village of Amritsar district in the Punjab state of India, 3 km from the Indo-Pakistani border at Wagah. It is situated 25 km west of the Sikh holy city of Amritsar, and is the last Indian station on the rail route connecting Lahore, Pakistan with the Indian capital Delhi. Attari village was the native village of Sardar Sham Singh Attariwala, one of the generals in the Army of Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
Transport between India and Pakistan has been developed for tourism and commercial purposes and bears much historical and political significance for both countries, which have possessed few transport links since the partition of India in 1947. In 2019, all public transport links between the two countries were severed because of Pakistani protest at India's revocation of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. The only way for travelers to make this journey is to cross on foot at Wagah.

The lowering of the flags ceremony at the Attari–Wagah border is a daily ceremony that the security forces of India and Pakistan have jointly followed since 1959. The drill is characterized by elaborate and rapid dance-like manoeuvres and raising legs as high as possible, which have been described as "colourful". It is both a symbol of the two countries’ rivalry, and a display of brotherhood and cooperation between the two nations.
Ganda Singh Wala is a village, just 58 km from Lahore City in Kasur District in the Punjab, Pakistan. Until 1986, it served as the main border crossing between Pakistan and India. The Sutlej River flows by Ganda Singh Wala, and the area is prone to flooding.
Marvi Railway Station (Urdu: ماروی ریلوے اسٹیشن, is the eastern terminus of the Hyderabad–Khokhrapar Branch Line. It is situated 8 km east of Khokhrapar, Sindh and lies on the Pakistan–India border. The station was constructed in February 2006 when Mirpur Khas–Munabao 1,000 mm railway was converted to the present day 1,676 mm. The station is used for immigration and customs of passengers who travel on the Thar Express between Pakistan and India.
Attari Shyam Singh Railway Station is located in Amritsar district in the Indian state of Punjab and serves Attari and the Wagah border with Pakistan.
Munabao railway station is located in Barmer district in the Indian state of Rajasthan. It is a railway transit point on the India–Pakistan border.
The Marwar Junction–Munabao line connects Marwar Junction, on the Jaipur–Ahmedabad line to Munabao, the last station in India, near the India–Pakistan border. Both are in the Indian state of Rajasthan. There is a link to Jodhpur. This line operates under the jurisdiction of North Western Railway zone.
Khokhropar Railway Station, also called Khokhrapar Railway Station, is located in Khokhrapar town, Sindh, Pakistan. This railway station, 70 km from Umerkot, was established in the late 19th century as the first railway station in Sindh on the India-Pakistan border. The valley comprises today's Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, Tharparkar and Umerkot districts. Rice and other grains were produced in huge quantity in the area. The people of Rajasthan used to travel to and from Khokhrapar railway station in a train called Raja-ji-Rail. It was called so because the Raja of Jodhpur and other Rajas of neighbouring princely states helped Indian Railways to lay down a 650-km meter-gauge track from Jodhpur to Hyderabad.

Sind Mail was a passenger train that ran between Bombay and Karachi during the British era in British India. This train used to operate via Ahmedabad–Palanpur–Marwar–Pali–Jodhpur–Luni–Barmer–Munabao–Khokhrapar–Mirpur Khas–Hyderabad. After partition this train was cut short from Hyderabad in Pakistan to Jodhpur in India. This train ran till 1965 and was discontinued due to 1965 war. Today Thar Express operate on this route.
