Murad Umakhanov (born 3 January 1977 in Khasavyurt, Dagestan, Russia) is a Russian wrestler and Olympic champion in Freestyle wrestling.
Umakhanov competed at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney where he won the gold medal in Freestyle wrestling, the featherweight class. [1]
Wrestling at the 2000 Summer Olympics took place in the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre and was split into two disciplines, Freestyle and Greco-Roman which are further divided into different weight categories. The freestyle competitions were held from 28 September to 1 October, and the Greco-Roman events were held from 24 to 27 September. In the freestyle 76 kg Alexander Leipold of Germany originally placed first, but was disqualified after he tested positive for Nandrolone.

He won the gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia, where he wrestled in the 57 kilogram weight class. He defeated Guivi Sissaouri of Canada 5–3 in the final match. Cross also competed at the 1992 Summer Olympics where he placed sixth. He had defeated the eventual winner and the two-time world champion Alejandro Puerto of Cuba in a previous tournament but lost 10–6 in round six of the elimination rounds.
Buvaisar Hamidovich Saitiev, also spelled Buvaysar Hamidovich Saytiev, is a Russian retired freestyle wrestler of Chechen heritage, who represented Russia, and won nine world-level gold medals in freestyle wrestling. He is widely considered as the greatest freestyle wrestler of all time. He currently is an acting State Duma Deputy from Dagestan.

Murad Gaidarov, also known as Murad Haidarau, is a Belarusian wrestler. Gaidarov was disqualified from 2004 Summer Olympics for retaliating after he was defeated at the quarterfinals and assaulted his opponent, Buvaisar Saitiev, off the arena floor. Gaidarov won the bronze medal in men's 74 kg freestyle wrestling at the 2008 Summer Olympics, but after a failed drug test by Soslan Tigiev, he was awarded the silver medal. His elder brother Gaidar Gaidarov is second coach of Dagestan wrestling team and the Italian national team.
