Background

Invasion is a professional wrestling event established by WWE in 2001. The then-World Wrestling Federation had planned to hold a fourth Fully Loaded pay-per-view (PPV) in July 2001, but the PPV event was then renamed Invasion as part of the ongoing The Invasion storyline between the WWF, and The Alliance, consisting of former World Championship Wrestling (WCW), and Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) talent; but following the conclusion of the storyline, the event's name was discontinued in 2002 when Vengeance took over the slot.

On September 27, 2025. during the NXT No Mercy event, NXT General Manager Ava announced NXT Invasion, a special episode of NXT reviving the Invasion name after more than 24 years, for October 7. [2]

Storylines

The event will include matches that result from scripted storylines. Results are predetermined by the writers of the participating promotions, [3] [4] while storylines are produced on WWE’s weekly television program, NXT and Total Nonstop Action Wrestling's (TNA) weekly television program, Impact! , following WWE and TNA signing a multi-year partnership in January 2025. [5] [6]

At NXT Homecoming on September 16, Raw's Grayson Waller hosted a special edition of his talk show The Grayson Waller Effect featuring NXT Champion Oba Femi and his No Mercy challenger Ricky Saints. However, they were all interrupted by TNA World Champion Trick Williams, who lost the NXT Championship to Femi at New Year's Evil, who demanded another title match. Waller then proposed a Winner Takes All match between Femi and Williams with both titles on the line, which both men agreed to, and the match was made official. During the event, several TNA wrestlers voiced their displeasure over the match taking place on X. The following week, the match ended in a disqualification victory for Williams after Mike Santana, who was slated to challenge Williams for his title at TNA's flagship show Bound for Glory, attacked him. Following this, a brawl ensued between NXT and TNA wrestlers as the show went off the air. At No Mercy, NXT General Manager Ava announced NXT Invasion would take place on October 7, with two Survivor Series matches pitting NXT and TNA wrestlers against each other. Ava and TNA Director of Authority Santino Marella will announce the teams on the September 30 episode of NXT.

After the events of the September 23 episode of NXT, General Manager Ava announced a Winner Takes All match between TNA World Tag Team Champions The Hardys (Jeff Hardy and Matt Hardy) and NXT Tag Team Champions DarkState (Dion Lennox and Osiris Griffin) with both titles on the line would take place at Invasion.

At No Mercy on September 27, NXT General Manager Ava announced that a redo of the Winner Takes All match for both the NXT Championship and TNA World Championship would take place at Invasion. Later that night, however, Ricky Saints defeated Oba Femi to win the NXT Championship. It’s not confirmed if Femi will face Williams as a non-title rematch or Saints will face Williams in the Winner Takes All match.
