The National COVID-19 Commission Advisory Board (NCC) is the Australian Government strategic advisory board for the national economic recovery to the COVID-19 pandemic. [1] Originally formed as the National COVID-19 Coordination Commission on 25 March 2020, Prime Minister Scott Morrison described the body as responsible for advising the government on public–private partnerships and coordination to mitigate the social and economic impacts of the pandemic in Australia. [2] [3] [4] [5] On 22 July 2020, the commission was renamed the National COVID-19 Commission Advisory Board to better reflect the advisory, not executive, nature of the body. [1] [6]

Executive Board membership

Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced that membership of the Executive Board of the National COVID-19 Coordination Commission would consist of leaders from the private and public sectors. [7]

The roles and membership were changed on 22 July 2020, with the commission becoming an advisory board. Entering into advisory roles were: Jane Halton, Paul Little, Catherine Tanna, David Thodey, Laura Berry, Samantha Hogg, Su McCluskey, Bao Hoang, Mike Hirst, and Paul Howes. In addition, the Secretary of the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet Philip Gaetjens, and Secretary of the Department of Home Affairs Mike Pezzullo, assist the board. [1]

Greg Combet was an inaugural commissioner for the National COVID-19 Coordination Commission but departed the board in July 2020. [9] [8]

The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet provides secretariat support functions for the NCC.

He is the chair of the National COVID-19 Commission Advisory Board, which was established in March 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Andrew Edgar Francis Metcalfe, is a senior Australian public servant and policymaker currently appointed as the Secretary of the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Public Administration Australia and Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management. He was a Partner at Ernst and Young, Canberra in its Government and Public Sector team from 2014-19.

Jane Halton Australian public servant

Sarah Jane "Jane" Halton is a former senior Australian public servant. She was the head of the Department of Health between January 2002 and June 2014, and the head of the Department of Finance from 2014 to 2016. She joined the board of ANZ Bank in October 2016. She was the Independent Chair of COTA Australia beginning December 2017. In 2020, she was appointed to the Morrison government's National COVID Commission.

Peter Noel Harris is a senior Australian public servant. He was Secretary of the Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy from 2009 to 2012. He was Chairman of the Australian Productivity Commission between 2012 and 2018.

National Security Committee (Australia)

The National Security Committee (NSC), also known as National Security Committee of Cabinet, is the peak decision-making body for national security and major foreign policy matters in the Australian Government. It is a committee of the Cabinet of Australia though decisions of the NSC do not require the endorsement of the Cabinet itself.

The Department of Home Affairs is the Australian Government interior ministry with responsibilities for national security, law enforcement, emergency management, border control, immigration, refugees, citizenship, transport security and multicultural affairs. The portfolio also includes federal agencies such as the Australian Federal Police, Australian Border Force and the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation. The Home Affairs portfolio reports to the Minister for Home Affairs, currently held by Jim Chalmers in an acting capacity, and is led by the Secretary of the Department of Home Affairs, Mike Pezzullo.

The National Recovery and Resilience Agency (NRRA) is an Australian government executive agency to help those affected by natural disasters, including droughts, bushfires and floods. It is an agency of the Department of Home Affairs since 1 July 2022. Prior to this, it was an agency of the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.

The COVID-19 pandemic in Australia is part of the ongoing worldwide pandemic of the coronavirus disease 2019 caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. The first confirmed case in Australia was identified on 25 January 2020, in Victoria, when a man who had returned from Wuhan, Hubei Province, China, tested positive for the virus. As of 12 January 2022, Australia has reported over 1,195,000 cases, over 450,000 recoveries, and 2,522 deaths, with Victoria's second wave accounting for about 66 per cent of fatalities.

National Cabinet (Australia) Australian intergovernmental forum

National Cabinet is the Australian intergovernmental decision-making forum composed of the prime minister and state and territory premiers and chief ministers. Originally established on 13 March 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, National Cabinet replaced the now-defunct Council of Australian Governments (COAG) as the primary intergovernmental forum on 29 May 2020, citing excessive bureaucracy and infrequent meetings. National Cabinet is composed of the main forum, and specialised committees focusing on: rural and regional Australia, skills, infrastructure, health, transport, population and migration, and energy.

Australian Health Protection Principal Committee

The Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) is the peak decision-making committee for public health emergency management and disease control in the Commonwealth of Australia. It is chaired by the Chief Medical Officer of the Australian Government and comprises the chief health officers of the states and territories.

National Command and Operation Center Pakistan COVID-19 response coordination center

The National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) was the principal body governing the policies and implementation of the national COVID-19 effort of Pakistan. It was formed in April 2020 on the orders of the Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan to collate, analyze, and process information received from all provinces, AJK, Gilgit-Baltistan, and the Capital Territory. It also makes recommendations to the National Coordination Committee (NCC), which is headed by the Prime Minister for timely interventions relating to the national COVID-19 response effort.
