The National Democratic Party of Tibet is a major party in the Tibetan government in exile,officially the Central Tibetan Administration,based in India. [1]
It was founded on 2 September 1994,but the seeds of the party were planted by the 14th Dalai Lama at a meeting of the Tibetan Youth Congress in 1990. Based on that meeting,leaders of the congress began drawing up a constitution. Mr. TT Karma Chophel was elected the first President of the NDPT,and ten other executive members were chosen. [2]
According to the party,its main aim and objectives are to prepare for the establishment of the political parties in a future Tibet,to promote democracy,to educate the Tibetan people about the significance of political parties,and to create awareness among the people about Tibetan issues. [3]
In 2008,the party held workshops on democracy in Tibetan settlements located in remote parts of India,where the Tibetan community was taught about democracy as a value. In the 5th National Convention,the party passed a bill to support Tibetan political science students in different universities.
This party played an important role in arousing political discussions in exile. The party supported Dr. Lobsang Sangay both during the 2011 and 2016 Tibetan Election for Kalon Tripa,now termed Sikyong (Prime Minister) to head the Central Tibetan Administration. However,in 2016 the party nominated Speaker Penpa Tsering along with Dr. Sangay to provide wider choice to the Tibetan diaspora.
In May 2011,Tenzin Rabgyal founded the People's Party of Tibet in an effort to bring plurality to the democratic process for Tibetans.
The Central Tibetan Administration is the Tibetan government in exile,based in Dharamshala,India. It is composed of a judiciary branch,a legislative branch,and an executive branch,and offers support and services to the Tibetan exile community.
The Tibetan independence movement is the political movement advocating for the reversal of the 1950 annexation of Tibet by the People's Republic of China,and the separation and independence of Greater Tibet from China.

Palden Gyatso was a Tibetan Buddhist monk. Arrested for protesting during the Chinese invasion of Tibet,he spent 33 years in Chinese prisons and labor camps,where he was extensively tortured,and served the longest term of any Tibetan political prisoner. After his release in 1992 he fled to Dharamsala in North India,in exile. He was still a practicing monk and became a political activist,traveling the world publicizing the cause of Tibet up until his death in 2018. His autobiography Fire Under the Snow is also known as The Autobiography of a Tibetan Monk. He was the subject of the 2008 documentary film Fire Under the Snow.
The Sikyong is the political leader of the Central Tibetan Administration,a Tibetan exile organisation in India also known as the Tibetan Government-in-Exile based on the 2011 Charter of Tibetans-in-exile. The title was created in 2012 after the 14th Dalai Lama decided not to assume any political and administrative authority as the head of the Tibetan Administration for Tibetans-in-exile.
The Tibetan Parliament in Exile (TPiE),officially the Parliament of the Central Tibetan Administration,is the unicameral and highest legislative organ of the Central Tibetan Administration,the government-in-exile of the Tibet Autonomous Region of China. It was established and is based in Dharamshala,India. The creation of this democratically elected body has been one of the major changes that the 14th Dalai Lama brought about in his efforts to introduce a democratic system of administration.

Serfs' Emancipation Day,observed annually on 28 March,is a holiday in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China that celebrates the emancipation of serfs in Tibet. The holiday was adopted by the Tibetan legislature on 19 January 2009 and it was promulgated that same year. Exiled to India in 1959,he was also the executive chairman of the International Campaign for Tibet.

Lukar Jam Atsok or commonly Lukar Jam,born 1972,in Tsolho Dragkartri district,in Amdo,Tibet. He is a Tibetan refugee and political activist that ran for Prime Minister of the Tibetan Government-in-Exile in Dharamshala,India in 2016. A former Chinese political prisoner,Lukar Jam went on to become President of the non-profit Gu-Chu-Sum,dedicated to the welfare of Tibetan political prisoners. He has worked as a civil servant with the Tibetan Government-in-Exile and currently lives in the Tibetan enclave of McLeod Ganj,high above Dharamsala,India in the western foothills of the Himalayas.
Lobsang Nyandak,sometimes written Lobsang Nyendak also called Lobsang Nyandak Zayul is a Tibetan diplomat and politician. born in 1965 in Kalimpong,India where he performed his studies in Herbertpur and at Panjab University in Chandigarh. There,he held functions at Tibetan Youth Congress before becoming the founding Executive Director of the Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy. Member of the National Democratic Party of Tibet,he was elected deputy and was selected as a minister by Samdhong Rinpoche,the first elected Kalon Tripa of Central Tibetan Administration (CTA). He then was the Representative of the 14th Dalai Lama to the Americas and became president of The Tibet Fund.

It is well known for its open and vibrant democratic forum for the discussion of the Tibetan problem and other related governmental and social issues on Tibet.
The Central Tibetan Administration,a government-in-exile of Tibet based in India,held an election for its next leader,the Sikyong,in 2021. Candidate Penpa Tsering won the election and succeeded Dr. Lobsang Sangay,who has served for two consecutive terms as Sikyong.
Kelsang Dorjee "Kaydor" Aukatsang is a Tibetan politician and candidate for the Central Tibetan Administration office of Sikyong. Kaydor was a close aide of the previous Sikyong,Dr. Lobsang Sangay,under whom he held various official positions including,the role of North America representative for the Dalai Lama,Chief Resilience Officer of the Central Tibetan Administration and the Director of the Social and Resource Development Fund (SARD).
Penpa Tsering is a Tibetan politician based in India. He is the second democratically elected Sikyong of the Central Tibetan Administration in India. He succeeded the last Sikyong Lobsang Sangay on 27 May 2021. Penpa Tsering was the speaker of the Parliament of the Central Tibetan Administration for two terms between 2008 and 2016.
