National Institute of Homeopathy (NIH) is an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH), Government of India. [2] [3] [4] It conducts the BHMS, MD (Homeopathy) and PhD (Homeopathy) courses in Homeopathy. The institute has a 250-bed hospital, with 10 for surgery and 10 for maternity cases.

History

National Institute of Homeopathy was established on 10 December 1975 as an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. It was located at Amherst Street, Kolkata and later shifted to the present location. [5] It started awarding Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery (B.H.M.S.) degrees in 1987. In July 2023 Minister of AYUSH Sarbananda Sonowal announced that Institute to get additional 150 number of beds, previously institute has 100 number of beds would soon have 250 beds. [6]

<span class="mw-page-title-main">National Commission for Homoeopathy</span>

The National Commission for Homoeopathy is a statutory body under the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India. Central Council of Homoeopathy was set up by the Government of India in 1973. The National Commission for Homoeopathy was constituted on 5 July 2021 and on the same date, the Homoeopathy Central Council Act, 1973 was repealed and the Central Council of Homoeopathy was superseded. It is one of the Professional Councils of University Grants Commission (UGC), formed to monitor higher education in India. Any institution desiring to grant a qualification in homeopathy is required to apply to the Council, which prescribes course curriculum and maintains central registers of homeopaths.

The National Council for Homeopathy (NCH) is an autonomous body constituted to regulate the education and registration of homeopathic medical practitioners in Pakistan.

Midnapore Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital (MHMC&H) is a homeopathic medical college and hospital in Midnapore, West Bengal, India. This college was established on 3 December 1945. It is one of the oldest running homeopathic institutions in India. It offers the Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery (BHMS) degree course. The college is recognized by the Central Council of Homoeopathy (CCH), Ministry of Ayush and affiliated with the West Bengal University of Health Sciences.

Anil Kumari Malhotra is an Indian homoeopathic physician, the principal of Nehru Homoeopathic Medical College, and Hospital of Delhi University. She is an alumnus of the Shri Sai Nath Post Graduate Institute of Homeopathy from where secured MD in homoeopathy in 2006 and has been holding the position of the principal of Nehru Medical College since 1 August 2007. She is known to have published several medical papers, has conducted medical workshops, featuring her presentations and participated in many continuing medical education programs. The Government of India awarded her the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri, in 2016, for her contributions to medicine.

North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda & Homoeopathy (NEIAH) is an autonomous institute under the Ministry of AYUSH, within the government of India. It is situated at Mawdiangdiang, Shillong, Meghalaya. It was formally inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Ayush Shripad Yesso Naik on 22 December 2016. Now from session 2019-20 seats have been increased to 63 per year for both the colleges.

The standard entry-to-practice degree in modern evidence-based medicine in India is the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). Alternative systems of Medicine in India are Ayurveda (BAMS), Unani (BUMS), Siddha(BSMS), Homeopathy (BHMS). M.B.B.S. a credential earned upon completion of a five-and-a-half-year undergraduate program. The curriculum is divided into one year of preclinical studies in general science subjects and three and a half years of paraclinical and clinical studies, followed by a one-year clinical internship. Before beginning the internship, students are required to pass several examinations, the final one of which is conducted in two parts. Postgraduate education in medical specialties typically takes 3 additional years of study after the MBBS and concludes with the award of a Master of Surgery or Doctor of Medicine(MD). Postgraduate diplomas in medical specialities may also be awarded upon the completion of two-year training programs. After that a person can further get a degree in superspeciality in his or her respective branch after successful completion of 3 years of superspeciality in a medical college.
