National Yang-Ming University (NYMU) was a public research university in Shipai, Beitou District, Taipei, Taiwan.
Yang-Ming was named after the Chinese philosopher Wang Yangming. It was merged with National Chiao Tung University into the newly formed National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University on 1 February 2021. [5]
NYMU was known for research in the fields of Medicine, Life Sciences and Biotechnology. It was one of the seven national research universities. [6] [7]
The university was founded in 1975 as the National Yang-Ming College of Medicine to cultivate first-class medical professionals and biomedical scientists. In 1994, it was granted university status to National Yang-Ming University by the Ministry of Education and became the first university in Taiwan dedicated to biomedical education and research. Along with its original mission, the university was devoted to excelling in biomedical research, and to promoting intercollegiate and international collaboration.
In the 30 years since its founding, NYMU enjoyed a robust growth. By the end of the 2005 academic year, NYMU became a medium-sized university with 5 schools - Medicine, Dentistry, Medical Technology and Biomedical Engineering, Life Sciences and Nursing, and a Center for General Education. Additionally, the Taipei Veterans General Hospital, served as the teaching hospital for medical and paramedical students. NYMU also established 15 research centers with a wide spectrum of emphases including Genomic Medicine, Brain Research, Cognitive Neuroscience, Immunology, Cellular and Molecular Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Medical Imaging, Biophotonics, Bioinformatics, Health Informatics, AIDS, Community Medicine, and Community Nursing.
President Kung-Yee Liang was awarded the Rema Lapouse Award in 2010. [8]
As of 2019 the President of NYMU was Steve Kuo and the vice president was William Stanton. [9]
Negotiations on a merger between National Yang-Ming University and National Chiao Tung University began in December 2018. [10] Both educational institutions voted to proceed with the merger in September 2019, [11] which was approved by the Ministry of Education in June 2020. [12]
The university had 7 departments and 28 graduate institutes, which are organized into 6 schools: Biomedical Science and Engineering, Dentistry, Humanities and Social Sciences, Life Sciences, Medicine, and Nursing. In 2007, NYMU enrolled 1,836 undergraduate students and 2,297 graduate students. [13]
NYMU participated in the Molecular Medicine Program and the Bioinformatics Program of the Taiwan International Graduate Program of Academia Sinica, Taiwan's most preeminent academic research institution.

In cooperation with Taipei City Hospital System and National Chengchi University, the three institution formed a health care system which covers medical education, healthcare, and management.

After the Chinese Civil War, president Mei Yiqi and other academics fled with the retreating Nationalist government to Taiwan, where they founded National Tsing Hua University in 1956. The school was initially located in Miaoli when it first moved to Taiwan, but relocated to Zhongli in 1962 and developed into a comprehensive university. It's the first university in Taiwan to research industrial economics, and economic development. NCU is a member of AACSB. NCU is one of the six national universities in research selected by the Ministry of Education.
National Taipei University of Technology is a public university in Taipei, Taiwan. It is a member of the Global Research & Industry Alliance (Gloria) of the Ministry of Science and Technology and accredited by AACSB. Located in the Daan district of Taipei, the school was established in 1912 as the School of Industrial Instruction, one of the earliest intermediate-higher educational institutions in Taiwan.
National Chengchi University is a public research university in Taipei, Taiwan. The university is also considered as the earliest public service training facility of Taiwan. First established in Nanjing in 1927, the university was subsequently relocated to Taipei and resumed full operation in 1954 as the first re-established "National University" in Taiwan.
National Chiao Tung University (NCTU) was a public research university in Hsinchu, Taiwan. Established in 1896 as Nanyang Public School by an imperial edict of the Guangxu Emperor, it was one of China's leading universities. The National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University School of Law is a postgraduate law school located on the campus of National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University in Hsinchu, Taiwan. NYCU Law began as the "Intellectual Property Management" Program in 1993, and then the Institute of Technology Law ("ITL") in 2000. The ITL was transformed into the National Chiao Tung University School of Law in 2015. In February 2021, because of the combination of National Yang-Ming University and National Chiao Tung University, the National Chiao Tung University School of Law was renamed the National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University School of Law. Its programs award advanced degrees including master's degrees as well as doctorate degrees. It is a postgraduate professional school, aiming to provide legal training for students already having bachelor's or more advanced degrees, and focuses on a cross-disciplinary legal education environment. Of note, NYCU Law stands out as one of the few law schools in Taiwan that teaches Anglo-American common law systems, alongside traditional civil law systems.

It was restructured as a technological university in 1997. It's a member of "National Yunlin University system" with National Taiwan University, and accredited by AACSB, ACCSB and IEET.

NDHU College of Science and Engineering is an interdisciplinary school of science and engineering of National Dong Hwa University. Established in 1995, NDHU CSAE was founded with Hsia Yu-Ping, the Chair Professor of Yale University and California Institute of Technology, as Founding Dean, which is the second interdisciplinary school of Science and Engineering in Taiwan.
Yang Yuyu was born Yang Ying-feng in Yilan, also known by his nickname Yu-yu (呦呦), was a Taiwanese sculptor. He was renowned for his late-period modernist abstract composite forms, stainless steel material, and Chinese aesthetics.
