Punjabi cinema, sometimes metonymously referred to as Pollywood or Punjwood is the Punjabi-language film industry centered around the Indian state of Punjab, and based in Amritsar and Mohali.
Gurpreet Singh Waraich, commonly known as Gurpreet Ghuggi, is an Indian actor, comedian and politician. He is known for his works in Punjabi and Hindi films. Ghuggi began his career by acting in theatre in the early 1990s, after which he had recurring roles in television series such as Ronak Mela and the soap opera Parchhaven. He gained international public recognition with comedic leading roles through his videos Ghuggi Junction (2003) and Ghuggi Shoo Mantar (2004), before beginning his film career by starring as Patwari Jhilmil Singh in Asa Nu Maan Watna Da (2004). He starred in the film Carry On Jatta (2012), and was praised for his meaningful leading role in Ardaas (2015).
Tera Mera Ki Rishta is a 2009 Indian Punjabi language romantic drama film directed by Navaniat Singh and produced by Mukesh Sharma. The film stars Jimmy Sheirgill and Kulraj Randhawa in lead roles along with Anupam Kher, Raj Babbar, Archana Puran Singh, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Binnu Dhillon, Rana Ranbir, Balkaran Brar, Tee Jay Sidhu, Dolly Minhas and Akshita in supporting roles. The Movie was released worldwide on 10 April 2009 and had earned $108,741 in first two weeks. The movie was shot by Spice Cine Vision Studios and was distributed by Eros International. The movie was stated to be the costliest Punjabi movie ever made and was the first Punjabi movie to be shot in Switzerland. Tera Mera Ki Rishta was also the first Punjabi Movie to be promoted online by www.punjabiportal.com and an official movie launch center website was also introduced. The movie is a remake of the 2005 Telugu movie Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana.

Carry On Jatta is a 2012 Indian Punjabi comedy film directed by Smeep Kang and starring Gippy Grewal, and Mahie Gill. The film released on 27 July 2012. This movie was remade in Odia in 2015 as Pilata Bigidigala, in Telugu in 2016 as Eedo Rakam Aado Rakam, in Bangladesh (Bengali) in 2017 as Dhat Teri Ki and in Bengali (India) in 2019 as Jamai Badal. The core storyline was loosely based on the 1989 Malayalam movie Chakkikotha Chankaran.

Lucky Di Unlucky Story is a 2013 Punjabi comedy film directed by Smeep Kang, and featuring Gippy Grewal, Jaswinder Bhalla, Gurpreet Ghuggi and Binnu Dhillon in lead roles; the group earlier came together for 2012 Punjabi comedy Carry On Jatta. The story is based on the lives of ladiesman Lucky; and his three married friends and how they enchance minor trouble. The film released on 26 April 2013 and became an instant blockbuster at the Indian box office apparently. The core storyline was loosely based on the 2002 Tamil movie Panchathantiram which itself was inspired by the 1998 movie Very Bad Things.
Bhaji in Problem is a 2013 Indian Punjabi-language comedy film directed by Smeep Kang, who had earlier directed films like Carry on Jatta and Lucky Di Unlucky Story, both of which featured Gippy Grewal in the lead role. Grewal also appears in this film, with an ensemble cast including Ragini Khanna, Gurpreet Ghuggi, B. N. Sharma, Karamjit Anmol, Japji Khaira, Khushboo Grewal and Misha Bajwa, amongst others. The film is produced by Ashvini Yardi and Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar, who also appears in the film briefly as a lookalike of himself. The film also features actor Om Puri and cricketer Harbhajan Singh. Bhaji in Problem was released on 15 November 2013 on over 600 screens worldwide.

The film is loosely based on the 1982 comedy film Angoor which was based on Shakespeare's play The Comedy of Errors and involves a father-son pair who discover their mirror images in a different city.

It is a Punjabi comedy about a simple boy, Tittu, and his journey to finally marry the girl of his dreams, Simran. She in turn happens to be interested in the local gangster, Gill Baiji. Gill Baiji gets shot by his arch rival Sidhu and this event changes Tittu's fate forever. The film has Jaswinder Bhalla, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Karamjit Anmol, B.N. Sharma and Jaggi Singh in supporting roles; it marked the Punjabi debut for Sapna Pabbi.
