Thomas Collier Platt was a two-term member of the U.S. House of Representatives (1873–1877) and a three-term U.S. Senator from New York in 1881 and 1897 to 1909. He began his career in musical theater as a child and appeared in Broadway productions of The Book of Mormon (2012–2013) and Dear Evan Hansen (2015–2017). He has received multiple accolades for his performance as the title character in the latter, including the Tony, Emmy, and Grammy Awards, which made him one of the few people to do so. At age 23, Ben became the youngest Tony Award winner for Best Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical. Platt will reprise his role in the upcoming 2021 film adaptation of the musical.
