Ningo Prampram District is one of the twenty-nine districts in Greater Accra Region, Ghana. [2] Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Dangme West District in 1988, which was created from the former Dangme District Council, until the southern part of the district was split off to create Ningo-Prampram District on 28 June 2012; thus the remaining part has been renamed as Shai-Osudoku District . The district assembly is located in the eastern part of Greater Accra Region and has Prampram as its capital town.

Background

The district is bordered to the north by Shai Osudoku District, to the east by Ada West District, to the south by the Gulf of Guinea, and to the west by Kpone Katamanso District. The total area of the district is 622.2 square kilometers. According to the 2010 census, the population of the district is 70,923, with 33,514 males and 37,409 females. [3] The current population based Ghana Statistical Service record is 87,393. [4]

The Ga-Dangmes are one ethnic group that lives primarily in the Greater Accra of Ghana. Ethnic Ga family names (surnames) such as Oblitey, Lartey, Nortey, Aryee, Poku and Lamptey. The following are names derived from the ethnic Dangme and common among the Ningos Nartey, Tetteh, Kwei, Kweinor, Kwetey, Narteh, Narh, Dugbatey, Teye, Martey, Addo, Siaw, Saki, Amanor, Djangba. These are aligned to the ethnic Ga as well: Lomotey, Tetteh, Ankrah, Tetteyfio, Laryea, Ayitey, Okai, Bortey, Quaye, Quaynor, Ashong, Kotei, Sowah, Odoi, Ablor, Adjetey, Dodoo, Darku and Quartey.

Dangme East District Former District in Ghana

Ningo-Prampram

The Ningo-Prampram Constituency is one of the constituencies represented in the Parliament of Ghana. The constituency derives its name from the two towns located within the constituency. The towns are the much larger and older Ningo and the relatively younger Prampram which is much smaller. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election. Ningo-Prampram is located in the Ningo-Prampram District of the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. Central University College has a campus at Miotso near Prampram and plans are underway to relocate its other campuses to Ningo-Prampram. Hope City which was initially planned to be built at Kasoa has also been relocated here. Plans are also underway to build the new international airport at a location near Ningo.

Kpone Katamanso Municipal District District in Ghana

Kpone-Katamanso Municipal District is one of the twenty-nine districts in Greater Accra Region, Ghana. Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Tema Municipal District, which was created from the former Tema District Council, until the eastern portion of the district was split off to create Kpone-Katamanso District on 28 June 2012, which was established by Legislative Instrument (L.I.) 2031; thus the remaining part has been retained as Tema Metropolitan District. However on 15 March 2018, it was later elevated to municipal district assembly status to become Kpone-Katamanso Municipal District, which was established by Legislative Instrument (L.I.) 2271. The municipality is located in the central part of Greater Accra Region and has Kpone as its capital town.

David Tetteh Assumeng is a Ghanaian politician. He was the member of parliament for the Shai Osudoku Constituency from 7 January 2005 to 6 January 2017.

Michael Afedi Gizo is a Ghanaian politician. He is a former member of the 3rd parliament of the 4th Republic of Ghana. He represented the Dangme West which is now Shai-Osudoku constituency in the Greater Accra Region on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
