Nkwanta District is a former district that was located in Volta Region of Ghana. On 29 February 2008, Nkwanta North District was split off by a decree of president John Agyekum Kufuor; thus the remaining portion has been since then officially called Nkwanta South District ; which has upgraded to municipal district assembly status to become Nkwanta South Municipal District in 2017. The district assembly was located in the northern part of Volta Region and had Nkwanta as its capital town.

Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Krachi District on 1988, until a small portion of the district was split off to become Krachi East District on 4 August 2004, which was established by Legislative Instrument (L.I.) 1747; thus the remaining original part was renamed to become Krachi West District. Later, part of the district was split off to become Krachi Nchumuru District. The district assembly is located in the northern part of Oti Region and has Kete Krachi as its capital town.

New Juaben Municipal District District in Eastern Region

New Juaben Municipal District is a former district that was located in Eastern Region, Ghana. Originally created as a municipal district assembly in 1988. However on 2017, it was split out into two new districts: New Juaben North Municipal District and New Juaben South Municipal District. The municipality was located in the central part of Eastern Region and had Koforidua as its capital town.

J.B. Machator was the Presiding Member of the Nkwanta District in the Volta Region of Ghana from 1998 till his death on 20 February 2006. He was a leader of the Kokomba community in the Nkwanta District and a very influential member of the New Patriotic Party. He is on record to be the secret behind the N.P.Ps winning of its only seat in the region in the 2004 presidential and parliamentary elections. He left behind a wife and seven children.

Kpassa District Capital in Oti Region, Ghana

Kpassa is the capital of Nkwanta North District, a district in the Oti Region of Ghana. The Oti Region was part of the Volta Region of Ghana until 2019. The inhabitants of Kpassa are mostly Konkomba people. The other inhabitants are Basare, The Bassares and famous for their fire dance, the Komkombas and Bassares are originally from Togo. There are also Akan, Ewe, Anufo, Krachi and Gonja people. In the past, the inhabitants of Kpassa have mainly engaged in farming. This trend has changed during the past two decades. Younger inhabitants are actively pursuing education and small-scale business activities, while the older ones are into governance. As a result, Kpassa has undergone rapid expansion during these past two decades. The town is expected to expand further once the Eastern Corridor Road Project is completed. In terms of architecture, a returning visitor will easily noticed that the town is rapidly shifting from mud buildings or atakpame to modern block buildings. In fact, most people in the town attach this shift to prestige and affluence in the society. At the current rate, one is expected to find fewer atakpame buildings a decade in the future. The economy of Kpassa is critical to the Volta Region, owing to its engagement in the production of valuable agricultural products such as corn, yam, cassava, millet, groundnuts, pepper, soya beans, and beans, among others.
