Oasis is the annual cultural festival of the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani. Started back in 1971, [1] it is one of the oldest cultural festivals in India. It is usually held towards the end of October every year. Events are organized for a continuous duration of 96 hours and are completely managed by the student body. [2] It hosts a variety of events in various categories like Dance, Drama, Literature, Comedy, Fashion and Music. The festival is organized with a different theme every year. In 2022, the festival will observe golden jubilee and the official theme selected is Chapter 50: Demesne of The Lost Gold. [3]

Events

Prof Shows

Prof Shows, an informal short for Professional Shows, feature performances from acclaimed national and international artists.

Chapter 49 (2019) featured performances by Dan Deacon, Nucleya, Biswa Kalyan Rath, Abhishek Raghuram and Sunidhi Chauhan. [4]

Chapter 50 (2022), hosted after 3 years of the festival's absence owing to the pandemic, featured performances by Till.APES and Peter Cat Recording Co. for the Indie Nite, Sevenn (an international EDM artist) and Seedhe Maut (a desi hip-hop duo) for the EDM Nite and Amit Trivedi. Comedians Gaurav Kapoor and Samay Raina capped the festival with performances at N2O, the college's flagship comedy showcase.

Rocktaves

Rocktaves is a semi-professional rock festival, featuring performance and competition between Indian rock bands. Bands like Parikrama (won the 1992 edition of Rocktaves, Oasis), Euphoria, Prestorika and Indian Ocean have all started their journey from here. [5]

Benny Dayal is an Indian playback singer. He is a prominent singer in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Bengali, Gujarati and Marathi and more languages films. He has sung more than 3500 songs in 19+ Indian languages. He is a member of the band S5, launched by SS Music TV channel. He made his acting debut in the Malayalam movie By the People, a suspense thriller. All the songs were sung by S5 members and it was then that A.R. Rahman noticed him and took an audition.

Rocktaves1 is a semi-professional rock festival organised in India at the university level. Held every year in BITS, Pilani during its annual cultural fest Oasis, it has served as a platform for upcoming Indian bands, launching many bands to fame. Bands like Parikrama, Indian Ocean, Prestorika and Euphoria have risen to fame after winning Rocktaves. In 2008, Lounge Piranha, a rock band from Bangalore promoted their new album during Rocktaves.

Karavaan is the annual socio-cultural science fest of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Pune. The name stems from the notion of all IISERs moving forward as one. ATMOS is the annual techno-management festival of BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus, located in Hyderabad, India. It is known for a wide range of events, such as workshops, quizzes, lectures, technical exhibitions and competitions. Among the notable events conducted annually during it are the national level quiz Enigma and BITS MUN Hyderabad. Started in 2012, ATMOS aims at improving the technical culture among Indian colleges as well as providing a platform to showcase their abilities. In its sixth year now, ATMOS is growing rapidly with participation from students, academicians, entrepreneurs and speakers from all over India.

Highway 69 is an Indian heavy metal band. The band was formed in 2012 in Ranchi by vocalist Tarang Kerketta and guitarist Alvin Rozario, and has been based in Ranchi ever since its formation. The band has been the winners of numerous battle of band titles across their country and is known for their fast tempos, instrumental and aggressive style of playing. The band has performed twice as the finalists at Hornbill International Rock Contest of Hornbill Festival in Nagaland for the year 2017 and 2018. Their drummer has also bagged the title of the 'Best Drummer' in the year 2017 at this festival and was felicitated by Uday Benegal from the Indus Creed which is a band considered to be the pioneers of the Indian rock music.
