The Most Distinguished Order of Paduka Seri Laila Jasa [1] (Malay : Darjah Paduka Seri Laila Jasa Yang Amat Berjasa), also translated as The Most Distinguished Order of Merit of Brunei, [2] is an order of Brunei. It was established in February 1964 by Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien III. [2]

Description

The first class included 14 medallions measuring 1,100 millimetres (43 in) in silver, gold, and enamel, along with the badge appendant, measuring 60 millimetres (2.4 in) in silver, gold, and enamel; the star, measuring 83 millimetres (3.3 in) in silver, gold, and enamel, with a gold retaining pin and the maker's cartouche on the reverse, and presented in a fitted leather case with a miniature award. [3]

The pre-1984 first class consisted of a badge and star with two lions on them. The second class adopted the Bruneian crown in place of lions when Brunei gained official independence from Britain in 1984. [3]

The Most Esteemed Family Order of Laila Utama is an order of Brunei. It was established on 1 March 1954 by Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien III. The order carries the post-nominal letters "DK" or "DK I" as well as the title "Dato Laila Utama".

The Cheteria are a group of royal dignitaries within the Sultanate of Brunei whose position ranks below the Royal Wazir but above the Manteri. Each carry specialized tasks and report directly to the Sultan of Brunei. The Cheteria hierarchy is structured around what is known as the Four Fold system which expands up to 32 folds. The title of Cheteria are only bestowed upon the Pengiran, especially to the caste of Pengiran known as the Pengiran Peranakan. The awarding of such titles are held in a ceremony called "mengangkat".

Abdul Aziz bin Umar, also sometimes referred to as Pehin Abdul Aziz Umar, is a Bruneian nobleman and politician whom had a wide range of positions in the Government of Brunei. Before to that, he served as the Minister of Communications, the Minister of Education, and the Minister of Health. His last position was as Minister of Education, which he held from 1988 until 24 May 2005. His Excellency served in the civil service beginning with his first appointment in 1964 and held a number of roles from that time until Brunei's independence in 1984, including acting Chief Minister.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Zain Serudin</span> Bruneian writer and politician

Mohammad Zain bin Serudin, pen name Shukri Zain, is a Bruneian nobleman, politician and no who formerly held the position of Minister of Religious Affairs from 1986 to 2010. He has traveled abroad and made significant literary contributions to Malay-Islamic literature, including Islamic poetry and usage of his own Malay language to convey his poetic ideas. He also was the leader or president of the Brunei Youth Council (BYL), and a member of the Privy Council.

The Manteri are a group of royal dignitaries within the Sultanate of Brunei whose position ranks the fourth-highest official in the country behind the Sultan. There are two main groups in the Manteri, namely the Manteri Berchiri and the Manteri Bertauliah. Each person who is given a position in the Manteri is also given a certain title. They are also referred to in official speech and correspondence with specific honorific references. The title of Manteri is given to ordinary people and is held in a ceremony, which for the awarding of the title of Pehin Manteri, it is known as "menyampiri gelaran".

Mohammad Ariffin bin Abdul Wahab is a Bruneian nobleman, businessman and retired military officer, who served as the commander of the Training Institute Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) from 1975 to 1979. In 1976, he became one of the first two local personnel to be promoted to lieutenant colonel alongside Sulaiman Damit.

Dato Paduka Seri Haji Hasrin bin Dato Paduka Haji Sabtu (born 25 February 1954) is a Bruneian nobleman, politician and former police officer who served as the police commissioner of the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) from 2011 to 2013, and member of Legislative Council (LegCo) from 2017 to 2022. Notably, he is the president of Retired Personnel of the Royal Brunei Police Force Association (POLSARA).
