Gleneagles JPMC is a specialised cardiac care centre established within the hospital on 15 July 2002 and began operations on 8 August 2002. [2] A joint venture between the Brunei Investment Agency and Parkway Pantai, [3] a leading private healthcare group based in Singapore, it is managed and operated by Parkway Pantai, ensuring high-quality care with international standards. [4]

Over the years, Gleneagles JPMC has achieved numerous milestones, solidifying its reputation as a pioneering medical centre in Borneo and the wider region. In 2005, it became the first in Borneo to perform endovascular stenting for aortic aneurysms, followed by thoracoscopic ablation for atrial fibrillation in 2006. In 2014, it introduced the MitraClip technique for mitral valve repair and implanted the Watchman device for left atrial appendage closure, elevating the standard of cardiovascular care in the region. [3]

In 2013, Gleneagles JPMC became the first facility in Borneo to adopt CARTO mapping technology, enabling the treatment of atrial fibrillation through radiofrequency ablation. The following year, it achieved another milestone with the successful implantation of a left ventricular assist device, a first for Borneo and among the earliest in the region. Continuing its innovative trajectory, the centre performed its first transcatheter aortic valve replacement in 2016 and has since completed over 20 such procedures. [3]

In 2017, Gleneagles JPMC gained international recognition by live-streaming advanced medical procedures to the 14th MYLIVE cardiology conference in Kuala Lumpur, marking the first live broadcast of a medical procedure from Brunei. This success led to another broadcast in 2019 at the ASEAN Federation of Cardiology Congress. That same year, the centre carried out 3,144 diagnostic and interventional procedures, including 1,266 coronary angiograms, 804 percutaneous coronary interventions, and 112 electrophysiological studies. [3]

In November 2020, Gleneagles JPMC received the Joint Commission International Gold Seal of Approval for Hospital Accreditation, recognising its commitment to meeting globally recognised healthcare standards. Further underscoring its dedication to advancing healthcare, the centre introduced the Philips Azurion Bi-plane Angiography System in 2020, enhancing its diagnostic and interventional capabilities for the people of Brunei and the surrounding region.
