Royal Brunei Catering is a company whose main business is in the catering and restaurant business. It was a wholly owned subsidiary of Royal Brunei Airlines.

History

Dairy Farm (Brunei)

Royal Brunei Catering (RBC) started life as Dairy Farm (Brunei) [1] and was established as a joint venture between Dairy Farm and Royal Brunei Airlines in 1975 [2] to operate the flight kitchen at Brunei International Airport. In addition to this, it also operated an ice cream parlour and a grill restaurant at Darussalam Plaza on Jalan Sultan in Bandar Seri Begawan.

Renaming

When Royal Brunei Airlines purchased all the shares held by Dairy Farm in 1989 [1] to become the sole proprietor, the company was renamed as Royal Brunei Catering Sdn Bhd (often abbreviated as RBC [3] ).

Operations

Aircraft Catering Centre

RBC operates the flight kitchen at Brunei International Airport. The Aircraft Catering Centre produces 3,000 meals per day, catering for His Majesty's The Sultan Flight (HMSF), VIP Flights, and scheduled carriers such as Royal Brunei Airlines. Singapore Airlines has presented Royal Brunei Catering an award for Best Regional Caterer 1995/1996. [4]

Fine dining restaurants

RBC operates six restaurants in Brunei. [5] These are:

RBC also operates the Express Fast Food chain in Brunei and a number of bakeries in the Brunei-Muara district. [4] It also provides ad hoc outside catering services, and industrial catering services to the Raja Istri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital. [2]

There is also a small goods manufacturing operation which includes the production of the Alfresco brand Ice Cream, [1] bread, pastries and cakes for RBC Bakery & Pastry and a range of RBC Delicatessen products such as retail burgers and sausages. [5] Most of these activities are based at the Aircraft Catering Centre.

In addition, Royal Brunei Catering also provides laundry and dry cleaning services via its chain of laundry shops. [1] [2]

Royal Brunei Trading

Royal Brunei Trading is a subsidiary of Royal Brunei Airlines. It operates a number of duty-free shops in Brunei International Airport [6] and is part owner of the McDonald's franchise in Brunei. [7]

Royal Brunei Airlines Flight 238 was a scheduled flight from Labuan to Bandar Seri Begawan and Miri, operated by Merpati Intan on behalf of Royal Brunei Airlines. On 6 September 1997, the Dornier 228 registered as 9M-MIA crashed on approach to Miri, killing both crew members and all eight passengers on board.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Rayani Air</span> Full-service airline in Malaysia

Rayani Air Sdn. Bhd. was a full-service airline in Malaysia, headquartered in Shah Alam, Selangor, in the Kuala Lumpur metropolitan area. It was the first Sharia-compliant airline in Malaysia and the fourth such airline in the world, after Royal Brunei Airlines (RBA), Saudi Arabian Airlines and Iran Air. Borneo Airways Limited also known as Borneo Airways, was the flag carrier and the principal domestic airline in British Borneo based in Labuan between 1957 until 1 April 1965 when it merged with Malaysian Airways.

Borneo Airways was a regional airline in operation from 1997 to 1999 in Brunei. It is a subsidiary of Royal Brunei Airlines.
