Osteopeltidae is a taxonomic family of small, deep water sea snails, marine gastropod molluscs in the clade Vetigastropoda (according to the taxonomy of the Gastropoda by Bouchet & Rocroi, 2005). [2] These limpets feed on organic waste on the deep-sea floor; one species, Baleenopelta rotunda , feeds on decaying whale baleen. [3]
This family has no subfamilies.
Genera within the family Osteopeltidae include:
The Patellogastropoda, common name true limpets and historically called the Docoglossa, are members of a major phylogenetic group of marine gastropods, treated by experts either as a clade or as a taxonomic order.
Pyramidellidae, common name the pyram family, or pyramid shells, is a voluminous taxonomic family of mostly small and minute ectoparasitic sea snails, marine heterobranch gastropod molluscs. The great majority of species of pyrams are micromolluscs.
Fissurellidae, common name the keyhole limpets and slit limpets, is a taxonomic family of small to medium-sized limpet-like sea snails, marine gastropod molluscs in the clade Vetigastropoda.
Patellidae is a taxonomic family of true limpets, marine gastropod molluscs in the superfamily Patelloidea. (The superfamily Patelloidea should not be confused with the similar-sounding genus of true limpets Patelloida which is in the family Lottiidae within the superfamily Lottioidea, also part of the Patellogastropoda.)
Latia is a genus of very small, air-breathing freshwater snails or limpets, aquatic pulmonate gastropod molluscs in the superfamily Chilinoidea.
Notocrater is a genus of deep-water true limpets, marine gastropod molluscs in the family Pseudococculinidae, one of the families of true limpets.
Lepetidae is a family of sea snails or small, deep-water true limpets, marine gastropod molluscs in the clade Patellogastropoda the true limpets.
Neolepetopsidae is a family of small deep sea sea snails or true limpets, marine gastropod mollusks in the subclass Patellogastropoda.
Pseudococculinidae is a family of small sea snails or false limpets, marine gastropod mollusks in the superfamily Lepetelloidea.
Seguenziidae is a family of very small deepwater sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the superfamily Seguenzioidea.
Vetigastropoda is a major taxonomic group of sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks that form a very ancient lineage. Taxonomically the Vetigastropoda are sometimes treated as an order, although they are treated as an unranked clade in Bouchet and Rocroi, 2005.
Bathysciadiidae is a family of sea snails, deep-sea limpets, marine gastropod mollusks in the clade Cocculiniformia.
Pyropelta corymba is a species of small sea snail, a deep-water limpet, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Pyropeltidae
Pyropelta musaica is a species of small sea snail, a deep-water limpet, a marine gastropod mollusks in the family Pyropeltidae.
Pyropelta ryukyuensis is a species of small sea snail, a deep-water limpet, a marine gastropod mollusks in the family Pyropeltidae.
Pectinodontidae is a family of sea snails or true limpets, marine gastropod mollusks in the superfamily Lottioidea, the true limpets.
Osteopelta mirabilis is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusc in the family Osteopeltidae.
Osteopelta is a genus of sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the family Osteopeltidae.
Theta is a genus of sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the family Raphitomidae.
Vacerrena kesteveni is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Fissurellidae, the keyhole limpets and slit limpets.
