Parapsilorhynchus prateri, the Deolali minnow, is a critically endangered species of cyprinid fish currently only known from the Darna River near Deolali in Nashik District, Maharashtra, India. It is possibly extinct as it has not been recorded since 2004. [1] Recently Nandur Madhameshwar declared a new Ramsar site in Maharashtra which provide sanctuary to the Deolali minnow.

It was believed to be extinct for over 20 years in 1980, but an apparently native population of this fish was discovered on Hainan Island, well away from the White Cloud Mountain. They are bred in farms and are easily available through the aquarium trade. However, inbreeding in farms has led to genetically weak stock that is vulnerable to disease and prone to physical deformities.

Osteobrama peninsularis is a species of freshwater ray-finned fish from the carp and minnow family, the Cyprinidae. It occurs in the Indian states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Kerala. It has been recorded from the drainages of the Krishna River and the Godavari River as well as the Periyar River. Formerly this taxon was confused with Osteobrama cunma and this means that its distribution is uncertain, although it is described as common in Pune and the surrounding areas and in Karnataka. Like O. cunma it was formerly treated as a subspecies of Osteobrama cotio.
