Patna Science College, established in 1927, is one of the oldest science colleges in Patna, Bihar. It is affiliated to Patna University, [1] and offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in science.

History

Patna Science College is an institute of higher education in science which began in 1927 as the science department of Patna University. It was opened on 15 November 1928 by the then Viceroy, Lord Irwin. [2] As of 2010, the college offers courses in physics, chemistry, botany, zoology, geology, mathematics, statistics and management, as well as vocational courses. It provides three-year BSc (Honours) and MSc courses in the aforementioned subjects. The college used to offer 10+2 courses, including Junior school, High school and Junior College education, but these have been discontinued.

Location

The college is located between Patna University's main library and the National Institute of Technology Patna on Ashok Rajpath, Patna. It is situated on the banks of the River Ganga.

Hostel

There are six hostels for students that include Faraday House, Cavendish House, Newton House, Ramanujan Bhawan C.V. Raman, and Bhabha Hostel. The Girls' Hostel is shared with other Patna university colleges and it is next to the college. Students also take up residence in nearby private accommodation. Each department has its own library as well as its own building. Students also have access to the Patna University library.[ citation needed ]

Along with the Desh Ratna Rajendra Prasad and Bihar Vibhuti Anugrah Narayan Sinha (A.N. Sinha), Sinha is regarded among the architects of modern Bihar. He also led the Dalit entry into the Baidyanath Dham temple (Vaidyanath Temple, Deoghar). He was the first chief minister in the country to abolish the zamindari system. He underwent terms of imprisonment for a total of about eight years in British India. Sinha's mass meetings brought many people to hear him. He was known as Bihar Kesari for his "lionlike roars" in public speaking. His close friend and Gandhian Bihar Vibhuti A.N. Sinha in his essay Mere Shri Babu wrote that, "Since 1921, the History of Bihar has been the history of the life of Shri Babu". The 'Bihar Kesari' never visited his constituency to ask for votes as he believed that his work will speak for him.

Sushil Kumar Modi was an Indian politician from the Bharatiya Janata Party who was a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha from Bihar. He was a Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar as well as the Finance Minister of Bihar from 2005 to 2013 and 2017 to 2020. He was a lifelong member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. He was appointed the Chairman of the Empowered Committee of State Finance Ministers for the Implementation of Goods and Service Tax in July 2011.

The Bihar movement, also known as the JP movement, was a political movement initiated by students in the Indian state of Bihar against misrule and corruption in the state government. in 1974. It was led by the veteran Gandhian socialist Jayaprakash Narayan, popularly known as JP. The movement later turned against Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's government in the central government. It was also referred to as Sampoorna Kranti.

Sachchidananda Sinha College, in Aurangabad, Bihar in India, was established in 1943 by a local dignitary, renounced pleader and social worker Shree Akhouri Krishna Prakash Sinha alias Tripurari babu with the moral support of his friends Dr.Sachchidananda Sinha and Bihar-Vibhuti Dr.Anugrah Narayan Sinha. It is the oldest college under Magadh University, Bodh Gaya, Bihar and converted into constituent unit of this university in 1974. B.D. College, Patna, also known as Bhuwaneshwari Dayal College, established in 1970, is a general degree college in Patna, Bihar. It is a constituent unit of Patliputra University. The teachers at the college frequently attend Orientation and Refresher Courses to update their knowledge and skill. Some of the teachers participate in Orientation and Refresher Courses as resource persons, academic council senate in different universities some our teachers are engaged in Union Public Services commission and Bihar public Services Commission.

Sarangdhar Sinha was an Indian legislator, parliamentarian and academician. He was elected to the 1st Lok Sabha (1952-1957), lower house of the Parliament of India from Pataliputra in Bihar.
