Sir Curtly Elconn Lynwall Ambrose KCN is an Antiguan former cricketer who played 98 Test matches for the West Indies. Widely acknowledged as one of the greatest fast bowlers of all time,he took 405 Test wickets at an average of 20.99 and topped the ICC Player Rankings for much of his career to be rated the best bowler in the world. His great height—he is 6 feet 7 inches (2.01 m) tall—allowed him to make the ball bounce unusually high after he delivered it;allied to his pace and accuracy,it made him a very difficult bowler for batsmen to face. A man of few words during his career,he was notoriously reluctant to speak to journalists. He was chosen as one of the Wisden Cricketers of the Year in 1992;after he retired he was entered into the International Cricket Council Hall of Fame and selected as one of West Indies all-time XI by a panel of experts.
Joel Garner is a former West Indian cricketer,and a member of the highly regarded late 1970s and early 1980s West Indies cricket teams. Garner is the highest ranked One Day International bowler according to the ICC best-ever bowling ratings,and is 37th in Tests. Garner was a member of the West Indies teams that won their second world title in the 1979 Cricket World Cup as well as finishing as runners-up at the 1983 Cricket World Cup.
Courtney Andrew Walsh OJ is a Jamaican former cricketer who represented the West Indies from 1984 to 2001,captaining the West Indies in 22 Test matches. He is a fast bowler and considered one of the all-time greats,best known for a remarkable opening bowling partnership along with fellow West Indian Curtly Ambrose for several years. Walsh played 132 Tests and 205 ODIs for the West Indies and took 519 and 227 wickets respectively. He shared 421 Test wickets with Ambrose in 49 matches. He held the record of most Test wickets from 2000,after he broke the record of Kapil Dev. This record was later broken in 2004 by Shane Warne. He was the first bowler to reach 500 wickets in Test cricket. His autobiography is entitled "Heart of the Lion". Walsh was named one of the Wisden Cricketers of the Year in 1987. In October 2010,he was inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame. He was appointed as the Specialist Bowling Coach of Bangladesh Cricket Team in August 2016.
Allan Anthony Donald is a South African former cricketer who is also the former bowling coach of Bangladesh national cricket team. Often nicknamed 'White Lightning' due to his quick bowling,he is considered one of the South Africa national cricket team's most successful pace bowlers. He was an integral member of the South African team in its resurgence into international cricket since readmission and played an influential role as a frontline genuine seam bowler to boost South Africa to new heights. During his playing career,he was known for his bowling speed and aggression on the field. He is also remembered for his infamous runout during South Africa's loss in the 1999 World Cup semi-final match against Australia. Donald is the first South African to take 300 Test wickets.
Brett Lee is an Australian former international cricketer,who played all three formats of the game. During his international career,Lee was recognised as one of the fastest bowlers in the world. With his time representing Australia,Lee won multiple ICC titles with the team:the 2003 Cricket World Cup,the 2006 ICC Champions Trophy,and the 2009 ICC Champions Trophy. Lee was the first bowler to take a hat-trick in the T20 format of the game which he did in 2007 ICC World Twenty20 in the inaugural tournament against Bangladesh,subsequently being the first bowler to do so at an ICC Men's T20 World Cup. Lee was also the first Australian bowler to take a hat-trick at a Cricket World Cup which he did in the 2003 Cricket World Cup Super Match game against Kenya.
Fidel Henderson Edwards is a Barbadian cricketer,who played all formats of the game. A pace bowler,his round-arm action is "not unlike" that of former fast bowler Jeff Thomson but similar to the bowling action of Lasith Malinga of Sri Lanka. He was spotted in the nets by Brian Lara and was called up for his Test debut against Sri Lanka after just one match for Barbados. Edwards was a member of the West Indies team that won the 2012 T20 World Cup.
Malcolm Denzil Marshall was a Barbadian cricketer. Primarily a fast bowler,Marshall is widely regarded as one of the greatest and one of the most accomplished fast bowlers of the modern era in Test cricket. He is often acknowledged as the greatest West Indian fast bowler of all time,and certainly one of the most complete fast bowlers the cricketing world ever saw. His Test bowling average of 20.94 is the second best of anyone who has taken 200 or more wickets. He achieved his bowling success despite being,by the standards of other fast bowlers of his time,a short man –he stood at 180 cm,while most of the great quicks have been well above 183 cm and many great West Indian fast bowlers,such as Joel Garner,Curtly Ambrose,and Courtney Walsh,were 197 cm or above. He generated fearsome pace from his bowling action,with a dangerous bouncer. He also statistically went on to become the most successful Test match bowler of the 1980s with 235 wickets with an average of 18.47 within a time period of just five years. Marshall was a part of the West Indies team that won the 1979 Cricket World Cup as well as the team which reached the 1983 Cricket World Cup Final,but lost to India by 43 runs.
Devon Eugene Malcolm is a Jamaican-born English former cricketer. Born in Kingston,Jamaica,Malcolm played in 40 Test matches and 10 One Day Internationals for the England cricket team.
Abdul Qadir Khan SI was an international cricketer who bowled leg spin for Pakistan. Abdul Qadir is widely regarded as a legendary leg spinner from the 1970s and 1980s and was a role model for up and coming leg spinners. Qadir was voted the best player in the Group B matches of the 1987 Cricket World Cup and won a car which he donated to Imran Khan for his Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre project. Later he was a commentator and Chief Selector of the Pakistan Cricket Board,from which he resigned in 2009 due to differences of opinion with leading Pakistan cricket administrators.
Colin Reid Miller is an Australian former cricketer who played 18 Tests for Australia between 1998 and 2001. In May 2002,Miller announced his retirement from cricket.
Sylvester Theophilus Clarke was a Barbadian cricketer who played 11 Test matches and 10 One Day Internationals for the West Indian cricket team.
Edward Ernest Hemmings is a former English cricketer,who played in 16 Test matches and 33 One Day Internationals for the England cricket team between 1982 and 1991. He made his England debut relatively late in his career,at the age of 33,having predominantly represented Nottinghamshire in the County Championship. His chance came when several England players announced their intention to go on a rebel cricket tour to South Africa. He was a part of the English squad which finished as runners-up at the 1987 Cricket World Cup.
Kemar Andre Jamal Roach is a Barbadian international cricketer who plays for the West Indies in Test and One Day Internationals. As a 5-foot-8-inch (1.73 m) pacer,Roach initially reached speeds of over 90 mph on regular occasions. After some time he adapted his bowling style,due to injuries and diminshed pace,to encourage augmented swing and movement of the ball. He triumphantly claimed the BBL02 title with the Brisbane Heat and was an essential part of the Surrey side which eventually won the 2022 County Championship title. During 2012 he became the first West Indies bowler to take 10 wickets in a Test since 2005. Roach has since picked up over 250 wickets in Tests and over 100 ODI wickets for the Windies. He has also featured for Barbados,Deccan Chargers,Worcestershire along with CPL teams Antigua Hawksbills,St Lucia Zouks and Jamaica Tallawahs in his cricketing career. Roach made history for the West Indies as he was the first West Indian bowler to take a hat-trick in a Cricket World Cup,which he did against the Netherlands during the 2011 tournament.
The West Indian cricket team played 16 first-class cricket matches in England in 1988,under the captaincy of Viv Richards. They enjoyed considerable success during the tour,while England endured a "disastrous summer" of continuous change.
Ishant Sharma is an Indian cricketer who has represented India in Tests,ODIs and T20Is. He is a 6 ft 4 in tall right-arm fast-medium bowler. At the age of 18,Sharma was called to join the Indian squad for the tour of South Africa in 2006–07. However,after receiving the call and organising travel arrangements,he was deselected. In reference to his height and lean physique in his Under-19 days,the bowler was nicknamed Lambu. In 2011,he became the fifth youngest player to take 100 Test wickets. Against South Africa in 2013,Ishant Sharma became the fifth quickest Indian to record 100 ODI wickets. While being a "rhythm" bowler,he still is considered one of the fastest Indian bowlers having bowled in excess of 150 km/h on several occasions in international cricket as well as the IPL,his fastest being 152.2 km/h bowled to Ricky Ponting on Boxing Day Test in 2011. In 2020,Indian government has awarded him the Arjuna Award to recognize his outstanding achievement in cricket. Sharma was a member of the Indian team that won the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy.
The England national cricket team toured the West Indies from February to April 1986 and played a five-match Test series against the West Indies cricket team which the West Indies won 5–0. England were captained by David Gower;the West Indies by Viv Richards. In addition,the teams played a four-match One Day International (ODI) series which the West Indies won 3–1.
