Penzance East (Cornish: Pennsans Est) [1] is an electoral division of Cornwall in the United Kingdom and returns one member to sit on Cornwall Council. The current Councillor is Tim Dwelly, an Independent and former Portfolio Holder for Culture, Economy and Planning on the council. [2] [3]

Under its former boundaries, Penzance East represented the north and east of the town of Penzance, including the area of Treneere. [5] The ward was affected by redistricting at the 2013 election. From 2009 to 2013, the division covered 66.9 hectares in total; from 2013 to 2021 it covered 67.3 hectares. [5] [6]

With its current boundaries, the division represents the north and east of the town of Penzance, including the areas of Treneere, Causewayhead and Chyandour. [7]

Notes

  1. Olivier was an incumbent councillor for Penzance Central, [9] which was abolished at the elections.
  2. Dwelly was elected as a Labour councillor and was Labour leader on the council, but quit in March 2018 because of 'bullying and intimidation' from the 'far left' within the party. [4]

Although originally scheduled to take place on the same day, the election in the Bodmin St Petroc ward was countermanded following the death of Liberal Democrat candidate Steve Rogerson and was held on 8 June.

2021 Cornwall Council election

The 2021 Cornwall Council election took place on 6 May 2021 as part of the 2021 United Kingdom local elections. It was contested under new division boundaries as the number of seats on the council falls from 123 to 87.

Wendron was an electoral division of Cornwall in the United Kingdom which returned one member to sit on Cornwall Council from 2009 to 2013. From 2009 until his death in 2011, Mike Clayton represented the division as an Independent. Loveday Jenkin, the former leader of Mebyon Kernow and the runner up in the 2009 election, won the ensuing by-election and represented the division until it was abolished in 2013.

The coronavirus pandemic meant that a by-election could not be held and so the seat remained vacant until it was abolished at the 2021 local elections, being replaced by St Mewan and Grampound.
