Phyllostegia tahitensis, commonly known as the Tahitian phyllostegia, is an extinct species of flowering plant in the mint family, Lamiaceae. It was described by Jean Nadeaud in 1873. The species was endemic to the Society Islands, primarily Mount Marau, Tahiti, where the species was thought to have perished, but botanists do not exactly know when. [1]
Psychotria is a genus of flowering plants in the family Rubiaceae. It contains 1,582 species and is therefore one of the largest genera of flowering plants. The genus has a pantropical distribution and members of the genus are small understorey trees in tropical forests. Some species are endangered or facing extinction due to deforestation, especially species of central Africa and the Pacific.
Ixora is a genus of flowering plants in the family Rubiaceae. It is the only genus in the tribe Ixoreae. It consists of tropical evergreen trees and shrubs and holds around 544 species. Though native to the tropical and subtropical areas throughout the world, its centre of diversity is in Tropical Asia. Ixora also grows commonly in subtropical climates in the United States, such as Florida where it is commonly known as West Indian jasmine. Other common names include viruchi, kiskaara, kepale, rangan, kheme, ponna, chann tanea, techi, pan, siantan, jarum-jarum/jejarum, jungle flame, jungle geranium, and cruz de Malta, among others. The plants possess leathery leaves, ranging from 3 to 6 inches in length, and produce large clusters of tiny flowers in the summer. Members of Ixora prefer acidic soil, and are suitable choices for bonsai. It is also a popular choice for hedges in parts of South East Asia. In tropical climates, they flower year round and are commonly used in Hindu worship, as well as in ayurveda and Indian folk medicine.
Reynoldsia is a formerly recognised genus of plants in the ivy family, Araliaceae. In 2003, Kew Gardens published a checklist for Araliaceae, in which eight species were recognized for Reynoldsia: four from Samoa, two from Tahiti, one from the Marquesas, and one from Hawaii. In 2010, a phylogenetic comparison of DNA data showed that Reynoldsia was polyphyletic, consisting of two groups that are not each other's closest relatives. In a companion paper, three of the species were "sunk" into synonymy with others, reducing the number of species to five. All species that were formerly in Reynoldsia are now in Polyscias subgenus Tetraplasandra, a subgenus of 21 species indigenous to Malesia and the Pacific islands.
Fitchia is a genus of flowering plants in the sunflower family, native to certain islands in the Pacific.
Phyllostegia kaalaensis, the Kaala phyllostegia, is a species of flowering plant in the mint family, Lamiaceae, that is endemic to the island of Oʻahu in Hawaiʻi. It can be found in mesic forests on the slopes of the Waiʻanae Range at elevations of 374–796 metres (1,227–2,612 ft).
Phyllostegia is a genus of flowering plant in the mint family, Lamiaceae, first described in 1840. It is native to certain islands in the Pacific .. Phyllostegia glabra var. lanaiensis, became extinct before 2021 and was delisted from the Endangered Species Act based on extinction.
Phyllostegia mollis, the Waianae Range phyllostegia, is a species of flowering plant in the mint family, Lamiaceae, that is endemic to Hawaiʻi. It can be found in mesic and wet forests at elevations of 450–1,830 metres (1,480–6,000 ft) on the islands of Maui and Oʻahu. Some authors consider it to be an Oahu endemic, with the Maui populations belonging to a separate species, Phyllostegia pilosa. By 2003 there were fewer than 40 individuals remaining. It is threatened by habitat loss.
Myrsine collina, synonym Rapanea collina, is a species of plant in the family Primulaceae. It is endemic to the Society Islands.
Premna tahitensis is a species of plant in the family Lamiaceae. It is native to the Bismarck Archipelago in Papuasia and some islands of the south Pacific: Fiji, the Marquesas Islands, Niue, the Pitcairn Islands, Samoa, the Society Islands, Tonga, the Tuamotu Islands, the Tubuai Islands, and Wallis and Futuna.
Rapanea is a genus of plant in family Primulaceae. It has often been placed in synonymy with Myrsine, and many species have been moved to Myrsine. As of April 2022, Plants of the World Online does not accept the genus, regarding it as a synonym of Myrsine.
Treubia is a genus of liverworts in the family Treubiaceae. There are seven species, all of which are restricted to the southern hemisphere. Five of the species occur in Australasia and the other occurs in Chile. All species are dioicous, with separate male and female gametophytes.
Randia, commonly known as indigoberry, is a mostly Neotropical genus of shrubs or small trees in the Rubiaceae. As of February 2022 Plants of the World Online lists a total of 112 accepted species in the genus. Several Australian species have been reassigned to the genus Atractocarpus. These include the garden plants Atractocarpus chartaceus and A. fitzalanii.
