Plagioneurus is a genus of long-legged flies in the family Dolichopodidae. [1] [2] It contains only one species, Plagioneurus univittatus, [3] [4] [5] [6] and is the only member of the subfamily Plagioneurinae. [2] The range of P. univittatus spans from the Eastern United States south to South America. [6]
The genus name is derived from the Ancient Greek words πλάγιος (plágios, 'oblique') and νεῦρον (neûron, 'nerve'), referring to the unusual angle of the last part of the medial wing vein M, which converges with radial vein R4+5. [6] [7]
In the adults, the thorax is a metallic green, with a strong black stripe in the center, and the abdomen is black with white pruinose posterior bands. The wings are hyaline. [6]
Dolichopus is a large cosmopolitan genus of flies in the family Dolichopodidae. Adults are small flies, typically less than 8 mm in length. Nearly all species are metallic greenish-blue to greenish-bronze. It is the largest genus of Dolichopodidae with more than 600 species worldwide.
Hybomitra is a genus of horse flies in the family Tabanidae. There are at least 240 described species in Hybomitra.
Anepsiomyia is a genus of flies in the family Dolichopodidae. It contains only one extant species from Europe, A. flaviventris, as well as two fossil species from the Eocene of Russia and Belarus. The systematic position of the genus is currently uncertain: it has been variously placed in subfamilies such as Sympycninae and Peloropeodinae.
Chrysotimus is a genus of longlegged flies in the family Dolichopodidae. It is cosmopolitan in distribution, but it is probably paraphyletic with respect to several genera of limited distribution.
Nanomyina is a genus of long-legged flies in the family Dolichopodidae. There is only one described species in Nanomyina, Nanomyina barbata.
Nematoproctus is a genus of fly in the family Dolichopodidae. It has an uncertain position in the family; different authors have included the genus in the subfamily Diaphorinae or the subfamily Rhaphiinae.
Paraclius is a genus of flies in the family Dolichopodidae.
Pelastoneurus is a genus of flies in the family Dolichopodidae.
Sybistroma is a genus of flies in the family Dolichopodidae. It includes over 50 species, described mainly from the Palaearctic and Oriental realms. A single species is known from the Afrotropical realm. Until 2005, the genus was thought to be restricted to the Mediterranean in distribution, with five known species. It was recently expanded to include the former genera Hypophyllus, Ludovicius and Nordicornis, as well as some species of Hercostomus.
Tachytrechus is a genus of long-legged flies in the family Dolichopodidae.
Xanthochlorus is a genus of flies in the family Dolichopodidae. It is the only member of the subfamily Xanthochlorinae. In some classifications, the genus is included in the subfamily Sympycninae.
Dolichopodinae is a subfamily of flies in the family Dolichopodidae.
Diaphorinae is a subfamily of flies in the family Dolichopodidae.
Hydatostega is a genus of flies in the family Dolichopodidae. It was formerly considered a synonym of Hydrophorus, but was recently restored as a separate genus.
Peloropeodinae is a subfamily of flies in the family Dolichopodidae. In some classifications, the genera of the subfamily are included in Sympycninae. According to Germann et al. (2011), the subfamily is polyphyletic.
