The European Men's Handball Championship is the official competition for senior men's national handball teams of Europe and takes place every two years since 1994, in the even-numbered year between the World Championship. In addition to crowning the European champions, the tournament also serves as a qualifying tournament for the Olympic Games and World Championship. The most successful team is Sweden who have won four titles. Spain, however, have won most medals.

The Romanian women's national team represents Romania in senior women's international handball and is controlled by the Romanian Handball Federation, the governing body for handball in Romania. With a total of four medals, including two gold in 2008 and 2012, France is also the most successful Handball team at the Summer Olympics. France's men handball team is widely regarded as the finest national team in the history of the sport.
The Denmark men’s national handball team is controlled by the Danish Handball Association and represents Denmark in international matches. They are the team with the second most medals won in European Championship history on the men's side behind only Spain, with a total of six medals, those being two gold medals, one silver (2014) and three bronze medals. As of January 2019, they are the reigning Olympic and World Champions.
The Serbia men's national handball team represents Serbia in international handball competitions. It is governed by the Serbian Handball Federation.
The South Korea women's national handball team is the national team of South Korea. Since 1984 the Korean team has not only participated constantly in Olympic Games but also ranked among the top four nations every time. Korea grabbed the gold medal in 1988 and 1992, won the silver medal in 1984, 1996, 2004 and took bronze medal in 2008. They have earned two World Championship medals so far: In 1995, they also won the World Championship title in Austria/Hungary 1995 World Women's Handball Championship, they came off third to secure the bronze medal at the Croatia in 2003 World Women's Handball Championship. It is a twelve time Asian Champion, the tournament has been won by any other nation only twice.
The 2011 World Women's Handball Championship, the 20th event hosted by the International Handball Federation, was held in Brazil from 2 to 18 December 2011.
The 2015 World Men's Handball Championship was the 24th staging of the World Men's Handball Championship, organised by the International Handball Federation (IHF). The final tournament was held for the first time in Qatar, from 15 January to 1 February 2015. The Qatari bid was selected over those of Norway, Poland and France after a vote by the IHF Council on 27 January 2011, in Malmö, Sweden. This is the third time that the World Championship was hosted in the Middle East And North Africa, after Egypt in 1999 and Tunisia in 2005.
The 2017 IHF World Men's Handball Championship was the 25th event hosted by the International Handball Federation. The event was held in France from 11 to 29 January 2017.
IHF World Men's Outdoor Handball Championship was the world championship of field handball and was organized by the International Handball Federation (IHF) in the period 1948-1966. The first edition was organized by the International Amateur Handball Federation (IAHF) the predecessor of the IHF. There was settled seven World Cup tournaments. West Germany and East Germany did not participate in the 1948 championship due to the end of World War II.
The 2019 IHF World Men's Handball Championship was the 26th event hosted by the International Handball Federation and held in Denmark and Germany from 10 to 27 January 2019. This was the first IHF World Men's Handball Championship to include more than one host country. It was also the first time a unified Korean team participated.

The 2015 IHF Men's Junior World Championship was the 20th edition of the tournament and held at Brazil from 19 July to 1 August 2015. The decision to select Brazil as the host was announced 1 August 2014. France won their first title by defeating Denmark 26–24 in the final.
The 2021 IHF World Men's Handball Championship will be the 27th event hosted by the International Handball Federation and held in Egypt from 14 to 31 January 2021.
The Kosovo national men's handball team is the national handball team of Kosovo, representing the country in international competition. The team is governed by Kosovo Handball Federation. The national handball team started competing in international competition in 2014, following Kosovo's full status recognition from the International Handball Federation (IHF).
The 2022 EHF European Men's Handball Championship will be the 15th edition of the tournament and the second to feature 24 national teams. It will be co-hosted in two countries – Hungary and Slovakia – from 13 to 30 January 2022.
The 2025 IHF World Men's Handball Championship, will be the 29th event hosted by the International Handball Federation. It will be held in Croatia, Denmark and Norway in January 2025.
The 2027 IHF World Men's Handball Championship, will be the 30th event hosted by the International Handball Federation. It will take place in Germany in January 2027.
