Pranati Nayak (born 6 April 1995) [1] is an Indian artistic gymnast. She is the 2019 Asian Championships vault bronze medalist. She is the third Indian gymnast to win an international medal on the vault, after Dipa Karmakar and Aruna Reddy. She represented India at the 2020 Summer Olympics and is only the second Indian female gymnast to qualify for the Olympic Games. She is also the 2019 Indian all-around champion. She represented India at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and at the 2014 and 2018 Asian Games. She also competed at the 2014, 2017, and 2019 World Championships.
Nayak was born in Jhargram district. Her father worked as a state transport bus driver in West Bengal until 2017 when he took an office job, and her mother is a housewife. [2] She began gymnastics when she was six years old. [3] She moved to Odisha to train in 2003, and her coach Minara Begum paid for her living expenses. [4] She speaks Bengali, English, and Hindi. [1]
Nayak's first major international competition was the 2014 Commonwealth Games. She competed in the team competition with Aruna Reddy, Pranati Das, Rucha Divekar, and Dipa Karmakar, and they placed eleventh. [5] The same team in addition to Payel Bhattacharjee represented India at the 2014 Asian Games and placed eighth in the team event. [6] Individually, Nayak qualified for the all-around final and finished twentieth with a total score of 43.800. [7] The same Indian team competed again at the 2014 World Championships and finished last out of the thirty-eight teams. [8]
Nayak competed at the 2017 Asian Championships where she finished fourteenth in the all-around. [9] She qualified for the vault event final and finished fourth and the balance beam event final and finished fifth. [10] [11] She then competed at the 2017 World Championships and finished sixty-eighth in the all-around during the qualification round. [12]
Nayak qualified for the vault final at the 2018 Melbourne World Cup and finished sixth. [13] She then represented India at the 2018 Commonwealth Games alongside Aruna Reddy and Pranati Das where they finished seventh in the team competition. [14] Individually, Nayak qualified for the vault event final where she finished eighth. [15] Nayak, Reddy, and Das were joined by Mandira Chowdhury and Dipa Karmakar at the 2018 Asian Games where they placed seventh in the team final. Nayak qualified for the vault final and placed eighth. [16]
Nayak won the gold medal in the all-around at the 2019 Indian Championships. [17] At the 2019 Asian Championships, she finished thirteenth in the all-around. [18] She won the bronze medal on the vault with an average score of 13.384. [19] She was the third Indian gymnast to win a vault medal in a major international competition after Dipa Karmakar at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and Aruna Reddy at the 2018 Melbourne World Cup. [4] [20] At the 2019 World Championships, Nayak missed the all-around placement cutoff for the 2020 Olympic Games by less than three points. [21]
Nayak earned a continental quota spot to the 2020 Summer Olympics alongside Sri Lanka’s Milka Gehani after the cancellation of the 2021 Asian Championships. [22] She was only the second female gymnast to represent India at the Olympics, after Dipa Karmakar. [2] [23] She was only able to train for two months prior to the Olympics due her gym being closed for a year during the COVID-19 pandemic in India. [20] At the Olympics, she finished seventy-ninth in the all-around with a total score of 42.565 during the qualification round. [24] She did not qualify for any of the finals. [25]

Gymnastics came of age in India, when at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, Ashish Kumar won the first-ever medal in gymnastics, he won a bronze medal. However, soon after the win, the President of the Gymnastics Federation of India asked Ashish's Chief Coach from the Soviet Union, Vladimir Chertkov: "Is this all that you can deliver, a bronze?" The comment was widely reported in the press.
Giulia Steingruber is a Swiss retired artistic gymnast. She is the 2016 Olympic and 2017 World bronze medalist on vault. Additionally, she is the 2015 European all-around champion, a four-time European vault champion and the 2016 European floor exercise champion.
Alexa Citlali Moreno Medina is a Mexican artistic gymnast. She is the 2018 World bronze medalist on vault, the first Mexican female gymnast to medal at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. She represented Mexico at the 2016 Summer Olympics where she was the second reserve for the all-around final and at the 2020 Olympics where she placed fourth in the vault final. She will represent Mexico at the 2024 Summer Olympics. She is the 2023 Pan American champion on vault. She won a silver medal on vault at the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games and a bronze medal on vault at the 2010 Pacific Rim Championships. She is also a seven-time medalist on the FIG World Cup circuit. She is the 2011 Pan American Games and 2014 and 2018 Pan American Championships team bronze medalist and the 2010, 2014, and 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games team gold medalist.
Rebeca Rodrigues de Andrade is a Brazilian artistic gymnast. She is the 2020 Olympic, 2021 and 2023 World champion on the vault and 2022 World all-around champion. Andrade is the first Brazilian female gymnast to medal at an Olympic Games, and she is only the second Brazilian woman to win a gold medal at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. She is also the 2020 Olympic silver medalist, the 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships silver medalist and the 2021 Pan American champion in the all-around, and won silver on the uneven bars at the 2021 World Championships, silver on the floor exercise at the 2023 World Championships, bronze on the balance beam at the 2023 World Championships and a bronze on the floor exercise at the 2022 World Championships. Andrade is one of only 11 female gymnasts to have medalled on every event in the history of World Championships, and one of only three gymnasts to have done so in the 21st century, alongside Simone Biles and Aliya Mustafina.
Dipa Karmakar is an Indian Gymnast from Tripura State. She is the first female gymnast from India to compete in the Olympics. At the 2016 Summer Olympics, in the vault event final, she finished in 4th place.
Miyakawa Sae is a Japanese artistic gymnast. She represented Japan at the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics and won a bronze medal on the vault. She also competed at the 2015 World Championships where she finished fourth on the floor exercise and at the 2017 World Championships where she finished eighth on the vault. She was a member of the team that won a gold medal at the 2015 Asian Championships, and individually, she won the silver medal on the vault and the bronze medal on the floor exercise. She also represented Japan at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
Marina Nekrasova is a Russian-born artistic gymnast who has represented Azerbaijan since 2013. She is the 2019 Summer Universiade vault champion. At the 2017 Islamic Solidarity Games, she won gold in the team event and silver medals on the vault and balance beam. She is also a three-time World Challenge Cup vault champion. She competed at the 2020 Olympic Games, making her the first woman artistic gymnast to represent Azerbaijan at the Olympic Games.
Pauline Sieglinde Schäfer-Betz or Pauline Schäfer is a German artistic gymnast who represented Germany at the 2016 and 2020 Olympic Games. She is the 2017 World Champion, the 2021 World silver medalist, and the 2015 World bronze medalist on the balance beam. She was part of the bronze medal-winning German team at the 2022 European Championships. She will represent Germany at the 2024 Summer Olympics.
Rifda Irfanaluthfi is an Indonesian artistic gymnast. She is the 2018 Asian Games floor exercise silver medalist and a four-time SEA Games champion. She is also a three-time medalist on the FIG World Cup series. She will represent Indonesia at the 2024 Summer Olympics.
Ana Filipa da Silva Martins is a Portuguese artistic gymnast who competed at the 2016 and 2020 Olympic Games. She won a bronze medal at the 2015 Summer Universiade on the balance beam. She is the first Portuguese gymnast to win a World Cup gold medal.
Ariana Gabriela Orrego Martínez is a Peruvian former artistic gymnast. She represented Peru at the 2016 and 2020 Olympic Games. She was the first ever Peruvian gymnast to compete at the Olympic Games. She is a six-time gold medalist at the South American Championships.
Zsófia Kovács is a Hungarian artistic gymnast who competed at the 2016 and 2020 Olympic Games. She is the 2017 and 2023 European all-around silver medalist, the 2020 European champion on uneven bars, as well as the 2020 and 2022 European champion on vault.
Maellyse Brassart is a Belgian artistic gymnast. She represented Belgium at the 2020 Summer Olympics. She also competed at the World Championships in 2017, 2018, and 2019.
Zhang Jin is a Chinese artistic gymnast. She is a 2018 World bronze medalist and 2018 Asian Games champion in the team event. She is also the 2018 Asian Games bronze medalist on the balance beam and the 2018 Stuttgart World Cup all-around champion. She represented China at the 2020 Summer Olympics.
Csenge Mária Bácskay is a Hungarian artistic gymnast and the 2018 Youth Olympic silver medalist on vault. Additionally, she was a member of the team that won bronze at the 2020 European Championships. She will represent Hungary at the 2024 Summer Olympics.
Yeo Seo-jeong is a South Korean artistic gymnast. She is the 2020 Olympic bronze medalist, 2023 World bronze medalist, the 2018 Asian Games champion, and 2022 Asian champion on vault. She is the first South Korean female gymnast to win an Olympic medal and also the first to win a World Championships medal.
Nazlı Savranbaşı is a Turkish artistic gymnast. She represented Turkey at the 2020 Summer Olympics and at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics. She is the 2019 Mersin World Challenge Cup champion on the uneven bars. She is the 2020 Turkish all-around champion and the 2018 Turkish junior all-around champion.
Lihie Raz is an American-born Israeli artistic gymnast. She won the bronze medal on the floor exercise at the 2020 European Championships which is Israel's first medal at the European Women's Artistic Gymnastics Championships. She is also the 2019 and 2021 Israeli all-around champion. She represented Israel at the 2020 Summer Olympics and finished fifty-ninth in the all-around during qualifications, but did not advance to any finals.
Julie Dicko Erichsen is a Norwegian artistic gymnast. She competed at the 2020 Olympic Games and the 2019 World Championships. She was the first Norwegian female gymnast to compete at the Olympic Games since 1992. She is the 2022 Northern European uneven bars champion.
Milka Gehani Elpitiya Badalge Dona also known as Milka Gehani de Silva is a Sri Lankan artistic gymnast. She earned a continental quota spot to the 2020 Summer Olympics after the cancellation of the 2021 Asian Championships. She was the first Sri Lankan gymnast across all disciplines to compete in the Olympics. She also represented Sri Lanka at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics and the 2019 and 2022 World Championships.
