Pristurus schneideri is a species of lizard in the family Sphaerodactylidae. The species is endemic to Yemen.

Etymology

The specific name, schneideri, is in honor of German herpetologist Wolfgang Schneider of the Hessisches Landesmuseum in Darmstadt. [2]

Geographic range

P. schneideri is found on Hanish al Kabir Island, Yemen. [3]

Habitat

The preferred natural habitats of P. schneideri are the intertidal and supratidal zones, at elevations from sea level to 8 m (26 ft). [1]

Reproduction

P. schneideri is oviparous. [3]

The Hanish Islands conflict was a dispute between Yemen and Eritrea over the island of Greater Hanish in the Red Sea, one of the largest in the then disputed Zukur-Hanish archipelago. Fighting took place over three days from 15 December to 17 December 1995. In 1998 the Permanent Court of Arbitration determined that the smaller islands of the archipelago belonged to Yemen, while the bigger parts belonged to Eritrea.

Hanish Islands

The Hanish Islands are an island group in the Red Sea. Some of them are a part of Yemen, but before 1998 they were claimed by Eritrea as well. After a case in an international court under the guidance of Abdul Karim al-Iryani, Yemen was granted full ownership of the some parts of the Islands, and Eritrea was awarded the peripheral islands to the southwest.
