Quaternella is a genus of flowering plants in the amaranth family Amaranthaceae, endemic to Brazil. [2] They are shrubs or subshrubs found mostly in the cerrado biome. [3]

The dicotyledons, also known as dicots, are one of the two groups into which all the flowering plants or angiosperms were formerly divided. The name refers to one of the typical characteristics of the group, namely that the seed has two embryonic leaves or cotyledons. There are around 200,000 species within this group. The other group of flowering plants were called monocotyledons or monocots, typically having one cotyledon. Historically, these two groups formed the two divisions of the flowering plants.
The Faboideae are a subfamily of the flowering plant family Fabaceae or Leguminosae. An acceptable alternative name for the subfamily is Papilionoideae, or Papilionaceae when this group of plants is treated as a family.
Acosmium Schott is a South America genus of Leguminosae (Fabaceae). Three species are currently recognized. Most Acosmium species have been recently transferred to Leptolobium and one species to the South American Guianodendron while the genus Acosmium itself has been transferred from the tribe Sophoreae to the tribe Dalbergieae in a monophyletic clade informally known as the Pterocarpus clade.

To an end-user who only deals with names of species, with some awareness that species are assignable to families, it may not be noticeable that there is more than one code, but beyond this basic level these are rather different in the way they work.

Acacia, commonly known as the wattles or acacias, is a large genus of shrubs and trees in the subfamily Mimosoideae of the pea family Fabaceae. Initially, it comprised a group of plant species native to Africa and Australia.
Hydatellaceae are a family of small, aquatic flowering plants. The family consists of tiny, relatively simple, plants occurring in Australasia and India. It was formerly considered to be related to the grasses and sedges, but has been reassigned to the order Nymphaeales as a result of DNA and morphological analyses showing that it represents one of the earliest groups to split off in flowering-plant phylogeny, rather than having a close relationship to monocots, which it bears a superficial resemblance to due to convergent evolution. The family includes only the genus Trithuria, which has at least 13 species, although species diversity in the family has probably been substantially underestimated.
The Athyriaceae are a family of terrestrial ferns in the order Polypodiales. In the Pteridophyte Phylogeny Group classification of 2016 (PPG I), the family is placed in the suborder Aspleniineae, and includes two genera. Alternatively, it may be treated as the subfamily Athyrioideae of a very broadly defined family Aspleniaceae. The family has with a cosmopolitan distribution.
Astrocaryum is a genus of about 36 to 40 species of palms native to Central and South America and Trinidad.
Leslie Pedley was an Australian botanist who specialised in the genus Acacia. He is notable for bringing into use the generic name Racosperma, creating a split in the genus with some 900 Australian species requiring to be renamed, since the type species of Acacia, Acacia nilotica, now Vachellia nilotica, had a different lineage from the Australian wattles. However, the International Botanical Congress (IBC) in Melbourne in 2011 ratified their earlier decision to retain the name Acacia for the Australian species and to rename the African species.
Hordeum pusillum, the little barley, is an annual grass native to the United States. It arrived via multiple long-distance dispersals of a southern South American species of Hordeum about one million years ago. Its closest relatives are therefore not the other North American taxa like meadow barley or foxtail barley, but rather Hordeum species of the pampas of central Argentina and Uruguay. It is less closely related to the Old World domesticated barley, from which it diverged about 12 million years ago. It is diploid.
Leptolobium is a small Neotropical genus of Leguminosae (Fabaceae), with ten species currently recognized. With the exception of Leptolobium panamense(Benth.) Sch. Rodr. & A.M.G. Azevedo, which occurs in tropical forests from northwestern South America to Mexico, all species of Leptolobium are restricted to South America and most diverse in Brazil. Most Leptolobium species have been traditionally included in AcosmiumSchott (Fabaceae), but both genera have been recently distinguished based on several vegetative and reproductive traits.
Hyacinthoides lingulata is a species of bulbous plant that lives in North Africa, from Morocco to Tunisia. It is widespread in short grass and agricultural fields, flowering in autumn when the rains begin. The flowers are generally paler than the common bluebell, but have a similar scent. Its leaves are not fully hardy, and it is usually grown under glass in the British Isles, where it requires a dry rest in summer and watering from early September until it dies back in May.
A patrocladogram is a cladistic branching pattern that has been precisely modified by use of patristic distances ; a type of phylogram. The patristic distance is defined as, "the number of apomorphic step changes separating two taxa on a cladogram," and is used exclusively to determine the amount of divergence of a characteristic from a common ancestor. This means that cladistic and patristic distances are combined to construct a new tree using various phenetic algorithms. The purpose of the patrocladogram in biological classification is to form a hypothesis about which evolutionary processes are actually involved before making a taxonomic decision. Patrocladograms are based on biostatistics that include but are not limited to: parsimony, distance matrix, likelihood methods, and Bayesian probability. Some examples of genomically related data that can be used as inputs for these methods are: molecular sequences, whole genome sequences, gene frequencies, restriction sites, distance matrices, unique characters, mutations such as SNPs, and mitochondrial genome data.
Hyacinthoides cedretorum is a species of bluebell that grows in North Africa.
Graziela Maciel Barroso (1912-2003) was a Brazilian botanist noted for being a leading expert on the flora of Brazil, as well as a specialist of Compositae. She was Chairman and Professor of the Department of Plant Biology at the University of Brasília, and published the three-volume Sistemática de Angiospermas do Brasil. Barroso identified over one hundred species, and two bromelieads have been named in her honor: Tillandsia grazielae and Tillandsia barrosoae. The standard author abbreviation G.M.Barroso is used to indicate this person as the author when citing a botanical name.
