By 1989, the music industry was changing. Hip hop and R&B were starting to dominate the charts and so as of a result pure pop artists like Tiffany had less airplay. As a result, the song flopped in comparison to past releases. The song peaked at number 35 on the US Billboard Hot 100, becoming her last entry to date. In the United Kingdom where it was the lead single, it was successful, peaking at number 13. "Radio Romance" also entered the top-forty in Belgium (Flanders), Finland, France, Ireland, the Netherlands, and New Zealand. To promote the single in the US, Tiffany performed the song on the Mickey Mouse Club and The Arsenio Hall Show .

Music video

The music video for "Radio Romance" was one of Tiffany's most surreal. In the video, she plays a waitress in a diner who calls the radio request line often to request a song for her secret crush. The problem is that he is holding hands with her best friend. Later in the video, Tiffany dances with others in a what looks like a dream sequence. As the video progresses, a child appears with a magic wand which furthers the video's fantasy nature.
