Wingecarribee Shire Council is composed of nine councillors elected proportionally to a single ward.

In March 2021, the council was suspended following the breakdown of relationships between councillors and senior staff. [3] As a result, no election was held for Wingecarribee in December 2021, with the council eventually dismissed in July 2022. [4]

Labor, the Greens and the Libertarian Party are contesting the election with endorsed party tickets. [5]

The National Party does not endorse candidates in local elections, but the party's Southern Highlands branch is supporting the "Wingecarribee First" ticket, which includes two Independent Nationals and is led by former Nationals member Sara Moylan. [6] [7] [8]

Additionally, although the Liberal Party is not endorsing candidates, a group comprised entirely of Liberal members is contesting. [15]

A group voting ticket (GVT) is a shortcut for voters in a preferential voting system, where a voter can indicate support for a list of candidates instead of marking preferences for individual candidates. For multi-member electoral divisions with single transferable voting, a group or party registers a GVT before an election with the electoral commission. When a voter selects a group or party above the line on a ballot paper, their vote is distributed according to the registered GVT for that group.
