Air Vice-Marshal Richard John Martin Broadbridge, 5th Baron Broadbridge, CB , QHS , FRAeS , FRCGP (born 20 January 1959), is a British physician, senior Royal Air Force officer, and hereditary peer. Having joined the RAF in 1981, [1] he rose to serve as Director Healthcare Delivery and Training, Defence Medical Services from 2014 to 2018 and acting Surgeon General in 2017. [2] He transferred to the Royal Air Force Reserve on 5 February 2018, [3] and succeeded his father as Baron Broadbridge in 2020. [2] [4]

Honours

On 18 September 2009, Broadbridge was made Honorary Surgeon to The Queen (QHS). [5] He was appointed a Companion of the Order of the Bath (CB) in the 2018 New Year Honours. [6]

Baron Broadbridge, of Brighton in the County of Sussex, is a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. It was created in 1945 for the Conservative politician Sir George Broadbridge, 1st Baronet. He had already been created a Baronet, of Wargrave Place in the County of Berkshire, on 22 November 1937. The title descended from father to son until the death of his grandson, the third Baron, in 2000. The late Baron was succeeded by his first cousin, who became the fourth holder of the titles. He was the son of Hugh Trevor Broadbridge, third son of the first Baron. He was in turn succeeded by his only son, Richard, a retired air vice-marshal who was honorary surgeon to the Queen, in 2020.

Field Marshal Richard Frederick Vincent, Baron Vincent of Coleshill, was a British Army officer. After serving with British Army of the Rhine he served with the Commonwealth Brigade in Malaysia during the Indonesia–Malaysia confrontation. He commanded 12th Light Air Defence Regiment in Northern Ireland during the Troubles, for which he was awarded the Distinguished Service Order, and later commanded 19th Airportable Brigade. Although he never served as one of the individual service heads, he went on to be Vice-Chief of the Defence Staff in the late 1980s and then Chief of the Defence Staff in the aftermath of the Gulf War. He subsequently became Chair of the Military Committee of NATO in the mid-1990s.

Marshal of the Royal Air Force David Brownrigg Craig, Baron Craig of Radley, is a retired Royal Air Force officer and member of the House of Lords. He was a fast jet pilot in the 1950s, a squadron commander in the 1960s and a station commander in the 1970s. He served as Chief of the Air Staff during the late 1980s, when the Boeing Airborne early warning and control system was ordered and the European Fighter programme was being developed. He then served as Chief of the Defence Staff during the Gulf War. He was granted a life peerage as Baron Craig of Radley after his retirement from active service in 1991, sitting as a crossbencher. As of 2022, he is the last living officer in the British Armed Forces to have held a five-star rank whilst on active service.
