Simon Christopher Joseph Fraser, 16th Lord Lovat (born 13 February 1977), has been the chief of Clan Fraser of Lovat since the death of his grandfather in 1995.

Early life

Lord Lovat is the son of Simon Fraser, Master of Lovat, and his wife, Virginia (née Grose). He is the grandson of the 15th Lord Lovat. He has two older sisters, Violet (b. 1972) and Honor (b. 1973), and one younger brother, John (b. 1984). Honor Fraser is a former fashion model.

Simon attended Harrow School, and graduated from the University of Edinburgh. [1]

Whilst still at Harrow, he assumed the title of Lord Lovat on the death of his grandfather in 1995. [2] His father Simon (then Master of Lovat and heir to the title) had died the previous year whilst riding on a hunt at the family's Beaufort estate. Due to considerable debts, the family was forced to sell Beaufort Castle. [2]

He lost his seat in the House of Lords in 1999, [1] when the law was changed to exclude most hereditary peers from the House.

Later life

Lovat became a stockbroker, and worked for a time in Geneva before moving to London. He currently works as a commodities analyst. [3]

He married Petra Palumbo in May 2016, [4] at St Stephen Walbrook, London. She is the daughter of Peter Palumbo, Baron Palumbo. [5] They have two daughters. [6]

Simon Augustine Fraser, Master of Lovat was the son of 15th Lord Lovat and the former Rosamond Broughton. He predeceased his father, and his son Simon inherited the Lordship of Lovat in 1995. He died of a heart attack while hunting on his (then) estate at Beaufort Castle.

The siege of Inverness that took place in November 1715 was part of the Jacobite rising of 1715. The town of Inverness and Inverness Castle were being held by the Clan Mackenzie, led by Sir John Mackenzie of Coul who supported the rebel Jacobite cause. Simon Fraser, 11th Lord Lovat, chief of the Clan Fraser of Lovat besieged them, supported by men of the Clan Rose and Clan Forbes.

Major James Fraser of Castle Leathers was a Scottish soldier who supported the British-Hanoverian Government during the Jacobite risings of the 18th-century and was an important member of the Clan Fraser of Lovat, a clan of the Scottish Highlands. He is also known for his quarrels with his clan chief, Simon Fraser, 11th Lord Lovat who switched sides several times during the Jacobite risings.

Hugh Fraser, 3rd Lord Lovat was a Scottish peer and Chief of Clan Fraser of Lovat from 1524 until 1544.

Thomas Fraser, 2nd Lord Lovat was a Scottish peer and Chief of Clan Fraser of Lovat from c. 1500/c. 1501 until 1524. He was the only son of Hugh Fraser, 1st Lord Lovat and Violetta Lyon, daughter of Patrick Lyon, 1st Lord Glamis, through whom he was a great-great-great-grandson of Robert II.

Simon Fraser, 6th Lord Lovat (1570–1633) was a Scottish courtier and landowner.
