Peoria is a city in and county seat of Peoria County, Illinois, United States. Located on the Illinois River, the city had a population of 113,150 as of the 2020 census. It is the principal city of the Peoria metropolitan area in Central Illinois, consisting of the counties of Fulton, Marshall, Peoria, Stark, Tazewell, and Woodford, which had a population of 402,391 in 2020.

Aaron Jon Schock is a former American politician who was Republican U.S. Representative for Illinois's 18th congressional district from 2009 until 2015. The district is based in Peoria and includes part of Springfield. He was the first member of the U.S. Congress born in the 1980s as well as the first millennial member of Congress; when he took his seat in 2009 he was the youngest member of Congress, at age 27. Previously, Schock had served two terms in the Illinois House of Representatives, also as its youngest member.

It is part of the Illinois Community College System and its district, Illinois Community College District 514, is a 2,322-square-mile (6,010 km2) includes most of Peoria, Tazewell, and Woodford counties and parts of Bureau, Logan, Marshall, Livingston, McLean, Stark, and Mason counties.
The State Farm Holiday Classic, named after the title sponsor State Farm Insurance, is one of the largest co-ed, high school holiday basketball tournaments in the United States, with 64 teams. Held annually for four days following Christmas and dubbed "The Best Basketball This Side of March", the Classic is held at numerous college and high-school venues throughout Bloomington-Normal, Illinois. In 2017 the tournament will be played December 27–30.
Peoria High School is a public high school in Peoria, Illinois. Peoria High School was established in 1856 and is the second oldest continually operating high school west of the Allegheny Mountains after Evansville Central High School in Indiana. Peoria High is located at 1615 N. North Street and moved to this location in 1916. Peoria High School is commonly referred to as "Central" to distinguish it from Richwoods and Manual, and it is centrally located in Peoria. Peoria is the only city in the Peoria metro area with multiple high schools. The motto is the "Pride of the City".
Woodruff Career and Technical Center is a public vocational school located in Peoria, Illinois. Until 2010, it was a standard comprehensive high school known as E. N. Woodruff High School, and was more commonly known as Woodruff High School or simply Woodruff. The original high school opened in 1937 and was closed for one school year (2010–2011), reopening as a specialized high school with its current name.

Its territory consists of Radnor Township, northeastern Kickapoo Township, the western third of Medina Township, and parts of Akron, Hallock, and Richwoods Townships. Peoria Heights High School, or PHHS, is a public four-year high school located at 508 East Glen Avenue in Peoria Heights, Illinois, a village in Peoria County, in the Midwestern United States. PHHS is part of Peoria Heights Community Unit School District 325, which serves the community of Peoria Heights and a small section of Peoria, and also includes Peoria Heights Grade School. The campus is adjacent to the city of Peoria, and serves a mixed city and village residential community. The school district lies within the Peoria metropolitan statistical area.

Subramanian Raja Krishnamoorthi is an American businessman, politician, and attorney serving as the U.S. representative for Illinois's 8th congressional district since 2017. The district includes many of Chicago's western and northwestern suburbs, such as Hoffman Estates, Elgin, Schaumburg, Wood Dale, and Elk Grove Village. A member of the Democratic Party, Krishnamoorthi serves as the Ranking Member of the House Select Committee on Strategic Competition between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party, the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
Elizabeth Anne "Elle" Leonard is an American entrepreneur, philanthropist and former athlete. At Peoria Notre Dame High School, she excelled in basketball and volleyball. In basketball, she was a 5th team all-state selection who had several all-star game appearances. She did not continue athletics at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where she met her husband who is National Basketball Association veteran Meyers Leonard. She is from the Central Illinois Bielfeldt family, along with her brother Max Bielfeldt. She started her own food brand that has expanded to clothing.
