The Rivian R2 was revealed on March 7, 2024 alongside the smaller entry-level R3 compact SUV and its R3X counterpart. A two-row mid-size SUV, it is intended to slot beneath the three-row full-size R1S in the Rivian SUV lineup. The proposed MRSP—a key marketing point of the model—is $45,000, a significantly more affordable price compared to that of the R1S, which starts at nearly $75,000. [1] The R2 is planned to be sold globally, with it being Rivian's entry into the European market and the company's first model sold outside of the United States and Canada. [2]
Rivian has not yet revealed specific battery details for the R2, revealing that it uses 4695 cylindrical battery cells, which can be charged from 10% to 80% in less than 30 minutes and has a range of 300 mi (480 km) when fully charged.
At launch, the Rivian R2 will be offered in three powertrain options; single-motor rear-wheel-drive, dual-motor all-wheel-drive, and tri-motor all-wheel-drive. [1]
