The Roma District Rugby League is a competition in the Maranoa district of South West Queensland, Australia, run under the auspices of the Queensland Rugby League.

History

The Roma District Rugby League was established in 1914.

Rugby League Immortal Arthur Beetson played for the Roma Cities Gladiators, before moving to play for Redcliffe in the Brisbane Rugby League and Balmain, Eastern Suburbs and Parramatta in the NSWRFL Premiership, in addition to captaining New South Wales in the residency-based Interstate Series, Queensland in State of Origin, and becoming the first ever Indigenous captain of the Kangaroos.

The Western Rugby League folded in 2021, with the remaining clubs, Charleville and Cunnamulla, forming a combined side, known as the Western Ringers, who entered into the Roma competition from 2022.

Roma is a rural town and locality in the Maranoa Region, Queensland, Australia. It is the administrative centre of the Maranoa Region. The town was incorporated in 1867 and is named after Lady Diamantina Bowen, the wife of Sir George Bowen, the Governor of Queensland at the time. The Queensland Reds is the rugby union team based in Brisbane for the Australian state of Queensland that competes in the Southern Hemisphere's Super Rugby competition. With the introduction of the professional Super 12 competition they moved to a model where players are contracted to the Reds through the Queensland Rugby Union rather than selected on the basis of club form.

The New South Wales Rugby League Ltd (NSWRL) is an Australian rugby league football competition operator in New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory and is a member of the Australian Rugby League Commission. It was registered on 21 December 1983 and succeeded the New South Wales Rugby Football League which had been formed in Sydney on 8 August 1907. Arthur Henry "Artie" Beetson OAM was an Australian rugby league footballer and coach. He represented Australia, New South Wales and Queensland all between 1964 and 1981. His main position was at prop. Beetson became the first Indigenous Australian to captain Australia in any sport and is frequently cited as the best post-war forward in Australian rugby league history. He also had an extensive coaching career, spanning the 1970s to the 1990s, coaching Australia, Queensland, Eastern Suburbs, Redcliffe Dolphins and the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks.

The Under-19s Rugby Championship is an Australian rugby union competition for men's youth teams that forms part of the pathway for selection to the Junior Wallabies. The competition is hosted annually by Rugby Australia and players must meet an under-19 age requirement. Previously, this tournament was played closer in time to the World Junior Championship and used an under-20 age requirement.

The 2000 Queensland Cup season was the 5th season of Queensland's top-level statewide rugby league competition run by the Queensland Rugby League. The competition, known as the Bundy Gold Cup due to sponsorship from Bundaberg Rum, featured 12 teams playing a 26-week long season from February to August.

The New South Wales Rugby League administered several competitions during the 2022 rugby league season in Australia.
