The Brisbane Second Division Rugby League (BSDRL) is the second division of rugby league clubs in Brisbane.

History

In 1971 the Brisbane Rugby League began a second division competition. This competition was for Under 23 teams in three grades, and was contested by the BRL clubs, University, Teachers and eight "satellite" clubs. By 1977 there were 15 teams competing in Northern and Southern Zones. Since 1981 the Second Division has used Davies Park, West End as its headquarters and finals venue.

There are four teams from 1971 that are still competing in the Second Division: Brighton, St Brendans, Sunnybank and Bulimba Valleys (formerly Valley United Stars). The most successful clubs between 1977 and 2004 have been Sunnybank (13 Premierships), Carina (12 premierships), St Brendans (10) and Banyo (8).

In 2007 there were 65 teams from 43 clubs playing in five open grade competitions, an Under 22 and an Under 20 competition. In 2006, there were 2575 registered players in the League. The Brisbane Second Division is one of the biggest Rugby League competitions in the world. In 2011, there were 81 teams in 9 Divisions from 45 clubs, 2012, again 9 Divisions from 49 clubs forming 80 teams, 2013, 9 Divisions, 46 Clubs 78 teams competing in our competition, 2014, 81 teams, 8 Divisions, 46 Clubs, 2015, 73 teams, 8 Divisions from 47 Clubs.

The Central Coast Division of Country Rugby League is a rugby league competition based on the Central Coast of New South Wales between Sydney and Newcastle. The competition was founded in 1947 as a junior competition for the Newcastle club, Lakes United. The competition rapidly expanded and grew, so much so that in 1967, it was upgraded to full membership of the Country Rugby League as Group 12. Rugby league in Queensland is the most watched winter sport in the state and the second most participated football code after soccer. Rugby league was introduced in 1908 and within just a few years it surpassed rugby union there to become the most popular football code as players switched to play professionally in the Queensland Rugby League. In the 1920s, Queenslanders began leaving to play professionally in the New South Wales Rugby League which became a more popular competition. Rugby union in Queensland has traditionally been one of the most popular professional and recreational team sports in the state. Rugby union was introduced in the British colony's capital Brisbane in 1876. Initially it struggled to gain a foothold due to the popularity of Australian rules there until it got its break in 1882 with the first inter-colonial matches against New South Wales, and the formation of the Northern Rugby Union. Between 1885 and 1887 it became the dominant code after the leading schools association decided to play it exclusively and after 1890 spread virtually unopposed throughout the colony.

The earliest known records of regular soccer games in Brisbane date from the early 1880s, when a group comprising mostly Scottish immigrants commenced playing at Queen's Park, adjacent to Alice and Edward Streets in the city and vacant land in Melbourne Street South Brisbane, between Grey and Stanley Streets. This group of players subsequently formed the Anglo-Queensland Football Association in early 1884, and commenced playing fixtures at the sports field behind the Pineapple Hotel, in Main Street Kangaroo Point, and at Queen's Park, in June 1884.

The 1985 Brisbane Rugby League premiership was the 77th season of Brisbane's professional rugby league football competition. Eight teams from across Brisbane competed for the premiership, which culminated in a grand final match between the Southern Suburbs and Wynnum-Manly clubs.

The 1983 Winfield State League was the second season of the Queensland Rugby League's statewide competition. The competition was run similarly to the NSWRL's Amco Cup, featuring a short format prior the larger Brisbane Premiership season. Fortitude Valley won the title with a 21–12 win over Easts Tigers in the final at Lang Park in Brisbane.
