Scoparia illota is a species of moth in the family Crambidae. It is endemic to New Zealand. The larvae of this species are leaf miners.
It was described by Alfred Philpott in 1919 using specimens collected at Cromarty in Preservation Inlet as well as specimen collected between Blue Cliffs Beach and the Knife and Steel harbour in Southland. [2] The species was discussed and illustrated by George Hudson in his 1928 book The butterflies and moths of New Zealand. [3] [4] However the placement of this species within the genus Scoparia is in doubt. [1] As a result, this species has also been referred to as Scoparia (s.l.) illota. [5] The holotype specimen is held at the Auckland War Memorial Museum. [6]
The wingspan is 18–20 mm. The forewings are blackish-fuscous, irrorated with white. Both the first and second line are white. The hindwings are grey. Adults have been recorded on wing in December. [2] As a result of further study of the male genitalia, it has been argued that this species should be placed in the genus Eudonia. [7] Based on this as well as the wing pattern, it has also be postulated that S. illota belongs to the same species as Eudonia pachyerga. [7]
This species is endemic to New Zealand. [1] [5] It is found in the forests of southern New Zealand. [8] It is locally common in Thomsons Bush in Invercargill as well on the Cascade Road in South Westland. [8]
This species' larvae are leaf miners. [8] They form silk tunnels amongst the leaves of their host plants. [8]
Pyrrosia eleagnifolia is a host species for the larvae of this moth. [9]

Larvae feed on moss. Adult moths have been observed on the wing more frequently from October to April, and are attracted to light.
Stigmella insignis is a moth of the family Nepticulidae. It is endemic to New Zealand and has been observed in the Hawkes Bay as well as in the north west of the South Island. S. insignis inhabits montane to subalpine grasslands. The larvae of S. insignis are leaf miners. They likely feed on Celmisia spectabilis. Adults of this species have been observed on the wing in March, November and December.

This species inhabits native forest and prefers interior rather than edge habitat. Larvae feed on species of endangered mistletoe, including Peraxilla tetrapetala and Peraxilla colensoi, first by mining their leaves and then by consuming parts of flowers or leaves. By feeding on flower parts Z. maculata larvae affect the production of seeds of its endangered hosts. Adults are on the wing from August until February and likely have one brood a year. Adult moths rest in a steep angled head down tail up posture. A parasitic wasp in the genus Campoplex predates the larvae of Z. maculata.
