Contents

Scotland joined the Commonwealth of Nations as part of the United Kingdom in 1931.

In this competition Scotland finished ninth in the medals table behind Nigeria.

She won the gold medal in the 10,000 metres at the 1991 World Championships and a silver over the same distance at the 1988 Olympic Games. McColgan earned a silver in the 3000 metres at the 1989 World Indoor Championships. Yvonne Carole Grace Murray-Mooney, is a Scottish former middle-distance and long-distance track and road-running athlete. She won a bronze medal in the 3000 metres at the 1988 Olympic Games, and gold medals at this distance at the 1987 European Indoor Championships, the 1993 World Indoor Championships and the 1990 European Championships. She also won a gold medal in the 10,000 metres at the 1994 Commonwealth Games. Her 3000 metres best of 8:29.02 was set in the Olympic Final of 1988.

Eilish McColgan is a Scottish middle- and long-distance runner. She is the 2022 Commonwealth Games 10,000 metres champion with the Games record, and 5000 metres silver medallist. McColgan is a four-time European Championships medallist, winning silver medals for the 5000 m in 2018 and 10,000 m in 2022, bronze in the 5000 m in 2022, and a bronze for the indoor 3000 metres in 2017. She is the European record holder for the 10 km road race, and the British record holder for the 5000 m, 10,000 m, 5 km and half marathon. She also holds the European best in the 10 miles on the roads.

Jill Boltz is an English former distance runner who represented Great Britain at the 1988 Seoul Olympics and the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. She won a silver medal in the 10,000 metres at the 1990 Commonwealth Games. In 1991, she broke the World Best for 10 miles, with 51:41 in New York City. She also twice won the AAA Championships 10,000 metres title.

Karen Hargrave is a retired Scottish middle and long-distance runner. She finished fourth in the 3000 metres at the 1990 Commonwealth Games for Scotland, and finished seventh in the 1500 metres representing Great Britain at the 1989 IAAF World Indoor Championships.

The 1989 UK Athletics Championships was the national championship in outdoor track and field for the United Kingdom held at Monkton Stadium, Jarrow. It was the first time that the event was held in North East England. The men's 10,000 metres was dropped from the programme and replaced by a 3000 metres event. Strong winds affected the jumps programme and several of the sprint races.

The 1992 UK Athletics Championships was the national championship in outdoor track and field for the United Kingdom held at Sheffield Hallam UCA Stadium, Sheffield. It was the only time the city hosted the championships. The men's and women's racewalking events were dropped from the programme for this edition. The women's hammer throw was also not contested after featured for the first time in 1991.

Scotland competed at the 2022 Commonwealth Games at Birmingham, England from 28 July to 8 August 2022. Having competed at every Games since their 1930 inauguration, it was Scotland's twenty-second appearance.
