Shell Aircraft International, based at Rotterdam The Hague Airport, operates executive business jet aircraft for Shell plc headquarters, and for one Shell Group operating company, Shell Oil Company in the United States. It also provides advice on air operations and flight standards to Shell Group companies. Of historical note, Sir Douglas Bader, Second World War fighter pilot of the Royal Air Force (RAF) and double-leg amputee was aviation director in the United Kingdom for Royal Dutch Shell. [2]

Prior to 2000, Shell Aircraft Limited operated corporate jets for Shell Group headquarters, and Shell Oil and Shell Canada operated their aircraft independently. In 2000, the three operations were linked in Shell Aircraft International, whose first CEO was Brian Humphries.

On 4 October 2013, the operation of Shell Canada Aviation based in Calgary was closed down after 60 years operation, and future operations were contracted out to Flair Airlines Ltd. [2]

The ICAO telephony designator (call sign) changed from SHELL to PECTEN in the Edition 201 of the ICAO DOC 8585 Edition 201, published July 2022, however the three-letter designator remained SHE. [3]

Shell Aircraft International also works with Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP), the Shell Group's Brunei operating company (a 50-50 joint venture with the Brunei Government), [4] which operates four Sikorsky S-92 [5] [6] and two AgustaWestland AW139. Brunei Shell Petroleum is the only Shell operating company to operate its own helicopters; elsewhere, helicopter operations are contracted out to companies such as Bristow Helicopters. [7]

Aircraft formerly operated by Shell Aviation (former name of Shell Aircraft International) and its subsidiaries include British Aerospace HS-125-700B, Dassault Falcon 200, de Havilland DH.104 Dove, DHC-2 Beaver, DHC-3 Otter, DHC-6 Twin Otter, Dornier Do-28, Dornier 328-300 328JET Envoy 3, Douglas DC-3, Embraer 175, Fairchild F-27, and Piper PA-23 Aztec. [2]

Former Brunei Shell Petroleum include Aérospatiale Alouette III, Auster J5B Autocar (VR-UDO), Beech 90, Beech 99, Percival P50 Prince, Short Sealand, Sikorsky S55 Whirlwind, Sikorsky S61 Sea King, and Vickers Supermarine Type 309 Sea Otter. [5]

New York Airways was an American helicopter airline in the New York City area, founded in 1949 as a mail and cargo carrier. On 9 July 1953 it may have been the first scheduled helicopter airline to carry passengers in the United States, with headquarters at LaGuardia Airport. Although primarily a helicopter airline operator with scheduled passenger operations, New York Airways also flew fixed wing aircraft, such as the de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter 19-passenger STOL twin turboprop aircraft.

Eastern Provincial Airways (EPA) was an airline that operated in Atlantic and eastern Canada. At its peak, the carrier operated jet service with Boeing 737-200 aircraft connecting many communities that today only have scheduled passenger flights provided by 18-seat commuter turboprop aircraft. The airline traces its history from Maritime Central Airways (MCA) from 1961. It merged with CP Air to form Canadian Pacific Air Lines in 1986.

Anduki Airfield is a domestic airfield which now primarily operates as a heliport, located in Seria, a town in the Belait District of Brunei Darussalam. Although Anduki Airfield is owned by the Government of Brunei, it is operated and managed by Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP), who currently fly Sikorsky S-92 and AgustaWestland AW139 helicopters in support of servicing offshore oil platforms. Brunei Shell Petroleum replaced the original grass airstrip with a sealed instrument runway in 2008. Future upgrades include the addition of runway lighting, and an enhanced instrument approach procedure. Operations at Anduki Airfield are carried out in accordance with regulations from the United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) standards.

Bristow Helicopters operate a large fleet of 490 helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft. In 2015 it operated 24 helicopter types, however as a result of their restructure due to previous financial difficulties it now operates approximately six types, a significant reduction. The fleet includes unconsolidated affiliates and joint venture partners.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Tara Air</span> Nepalese airline

Tara Air Pvt. Ltd. is an airline headquartered in Kathmandu, Nepal. It is a subsidiary of Yeti Airlines. Tara Air was formed in 2009 using aircraft from the Yeti Airlines fleet and is based at Tribhuvan International Airport, with a secondary hub at Nepalgunj Airport. The airline operates scheduled flights and air charter services with a fleet of STOL aircraft, previously provided by Yeti Airlines. Its operations focus on serving remote and mountainous airports and airstrips.

Borneo Airways was a regional airline in operation from 1997 to 1999 in Brunei. It was a subsidiary of Royal Brunei Airlines.
