Shien's Revenge [lower-alpha 1] is a 1994 rail shooter video game developed by Almanic Corporation and originally published by Dynamic Planning for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in Japan and later in North America by Vic Tokai. In the game, players assume the role of the titular ninja to fight against monsters coming from a time portal in order to face against an entity known as Undertaker and rescue his companion Aska. Co-designed by Takashi Shichijo and mangaka Go Nagai, the title was created by most of the same team that worked on previous projects at Almanic such as E.V.O.: Search for Eden . It was met with mixed reception from critics since its release.
Shien's Revenge is a rail shooter game played from a first-person where movement is automatically controlled horizontally or vertically, as players assume the role of the titular ninja through six stages, each with a boss at the end stage that must be fought before progressing any further, in an effort to defeat an evil entity known as Undertaker and rescue his companion Aska as the main objective. [1] [2] Prior to the main game, players can practice their skills by choosing "training mode" at the title screen. [1] [2] During gameplay, use long-range shurikens or a close-range kunai as weapons to fight various enemies or block incoming attacks that appear on the playfield. [1] [2] Players can also pick up power-ups like rapid fire and magic scrolls when enemies are defeated; the use of scrolls produces a powerful attack that damages everything onscreen. [1] [2] A set of candles represents Shien's life meter and the game is over once it is depleted, though players have the option to continue playing a limited number of times. [2] The SNES Mouse or the Super Scope can be used as optional controllers and players can resume progress via a password system. [1] [2]
Shien and Aska are a pair of highly skilled ninjas fighting in a bloody civil war. After killing hundreds of enemies and emerging victorious, monsters suddenly appeared from a time portal and kidnap Aska. The mastermind is a mysterious force only known as the Undertaker and Shien, now alone, must travel through the time portal to defeat the unknown evil entity and rescue his companion Aska, while facing monsters on his way that emerge from portal. Shien's Revenge was developed, with additional support from Bee Media and Shuna, by most of the same team that worked on previous projects at Almanic Corporation such as E.V.O.: Search for Eden, with both Takashi Shichijo and mangaka Go Nagai acting as co-designers, serving as the debut of Nagai in the video game industry creating bosses. [3] [4] [5] Hiromitsu Shioya and Toshiyuki Mori served as programmers, while Hidetoshi Fujioka, Ken Ishikawa and Nanako Geya acted as artists. Shien's Revenge was rated the score of 74% by Game Players . [13] According to Electronic Gaming Monthly , the game has "a great concept and the mouse interface is totally cool", but it "can get repetitive after few levels of the same action". [1] GamePro remarked that the gameplay concept is unique, but suffers from poor design and difficult controls, even when using the SNES mouse. [10]
Tekkaman Blade is a 1992 Japanese anime television series produced by Tatsunoko Production and Sotsu Agency. The series was directed by Hiroshi Negishi and written by Mayori Sekijima and Satoru Akahori. The story follows an organization called the Space Knights and their war against aliens known as the Radam. The Space Knights are assisted by Takaya Aiba, who has the ability to transform into an armored warrior known as Tekkaman Blade.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project is a 1991 beat 'em up game developed and published by Konami for the Family Computer (Famicom) in Japan and for the Nintendo Entertainment System in North America in 1992. It is the third video game iteration of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the NES. The game features play mechanics similar to the previous game, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game, but it is an original title for the NES without any preceding arcade version. Fire Emblem Gaiden is a tactical role-playing game developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo for the Famicom. Released in March 1992, it is the second installment in the Fire Emblem series and the last to be developed for the Famicom. It builds upon the basic turn-based strategy gameplay of the previous title, while including new elements such as a navigable overworld. Set in the same world as its predecessor, Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light, Gaiden follows the battles of two opposing armies on the continent of Valentia, which is torn apart by political strife involving the princess Celica and her childhood friend Alm.
Akihiko Mori (森彰彦) born 1966, was a Japanese video game music composer who worked for Copya System Ltd. He was later a member of Mint Co., Ltd. where he worked with other composers. Mori unfortunately died of stomach cancer on January 8, 1998.
Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light is a tactical role-playing video game developed by Intelligent Systems and Nintendo and published by Nintendo for the Family Computer. It is the first installment in the Fire Emblem series and was originally released in Japan in 1990. Set on the fictional continent of Archanea, the story follows the tale of Marth, prince of the kingdom of Altea, who is sent on a quest to reclaim his throne after being forced into exile by the evil sorcerer Gharnef and his dark master Medeus, the titular Shadow Dragon. Forming new alliances with neighboring kingdoms, Marth must gather a new army to help him retrieve the sacred sword Falchion and the Fire Emblem shield in order to defeat Gharnef and Medeus and save his kingdom. The gameplay revolves around turn-based battles on grid-based maps, with defeated units being subject to permanent death.
Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 is a tactical role-playing game developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo for the Super Famicom; it was originally released through the Nintendo Power flash cartridge in 1999, then on a ROM cartridge the following year. Alcahest is a 1993 action video game developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Square for the Super Famicom. The plot takes place in a world where an emperor leads his army towards conquest of the kingdom of Panakeia in the midst of the revival of the demon god Alcahest, who was previously defeated by a swordsman aided with the power of guardians. The player acts as the swordsman Alen, exploring and searching for items and power-ups, while fighting enemies and bosses. Throughout the journey, the player encounters guardians who help Alen with their power and allies who join his party to stop Alcahest.
Wonder Project J is a 1994 life simulation video game developed by Almanic Corporation and published by Enix for the Super Famicom. In the game, players take care of a boy Gijin (robot) created by Dr. Geppetto named Pino. Directed by Takashi Yoneda, the title was created by most of the same personnel that worked on previous projects at Almanic such as E.V.O.: Search for Eden. It was met with positive reception from critics and sold over 1.3 million copies in Japan, making it one of the best-selling Super Famicom games. A sequel, Wonder Project J2, was released in 1996 for the Nintendo 64.
Cruise Chaser Blassty is a 1986 role-playing video game developed by Square for various Japanese computers, including the NEC PC-8801, PC-9801, and Sharp X1. The game had an unusual battle system, which involved the player controlling a customizable mecha robot from a first-person view. It followed a group of young people from Earth caught up in a war between a solar-system spanning government and a group of rebels. After release, the game's story was adapted to a manga and serialized, then released as a pair of standalone books. Cruise Chaser Blassty was the first video game worked on by composer Nobuo Uematsu.
Go Nagai is a prolific Japanese manga artist who has written, illustrated, or otherwise contributed to over 360 manga titles since his professional debut in 1967 with Meakashi Polikichi. Specializing in science fiction, fantasy, horror, and erotica, he is best known for creating the seminal works Cutie Honey, Devilman, and Mazinger Z in the 1970s.
Givro Corporation was a Japanese video game development company founded in 1989 in Tokyo, Japan by Takashi Yoneda, who was previously employed by Technos Japan and Enix. The company was originally established under the name Almanic Corporation, which it operated under for a few years before changing its corporate name in 1995. Givro would go on to produce games for home consoles such as the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Sega Genesis, 32X, Nintendo 64 and Sega Saturn. Givro released their final game in late 1997 and quietly dissolved at the end of the following year.
Fate/Extra is a dungeon crawler role-playing game developed by Type-Moon and Imageepoch and published by Marvelous Entertainment for the PlayStation Portable. The game takes place in a parallel universe to the visual novel Fate/stay night. It was released in Japan on July 22, 2010. Aksys Games localized the game for North America and released it on November 21, 2011. Cosmo Gang the Puzzle is a 1992 falling block puzzle arcade video game developed and published by Namco worldwide. The third game in its Cosmo Gang series, succeeding that year's Cosmo Gang the Video, players stack groups of blocks and aliens known as Jammers in a vertical-oriented well. The objective is to clear as many objects on the screen before they reach the top of the screen. Blocks are cleared by aligning them into complete horizontal rows, while Jammers are cleared by defeating them with blue-colored spheres.
