Shree Saini (born January 6, 1996) is an American model and beauty pageant titleholder. She represented the United States at Miss World 2022, reaching first runner-up and winning the Beauty with a Purpose National Ambassadorship. [1] Saini is the first Asian woman to represent the United States at Miss World. [2]

Early life and education

Shree Saini was born on January 6, 1996, in Punjab, India, and has lived in the United States since age 5. [3] [4] She first dreamed of competing for the Miss World title at the age of 5. [2] For the first 12 years of her life, while growing up in Moses Lake, Washington, [5] Saini's heartbeat had an average of just 20 beats per minute. [6] Doctors told her she could never dance again but she persisted, and continued training in ballet. [7] [8]

Later in life[ when? ], Saini was involved in a major car crash in Moses Lake that resulted in her suffering from significant facial burns. [9] [10] Saini was advised that her recovery would take a year, but she returned to her classes after just two weeks. [9]

Saini attended the University of Washington. [11] She is a trained ballerina, and has been accepted to train at the Joffrey Ballet. [12]

Pageantry

Saini, who was listed as both a resident of Seattle and Ellensburg, Washington, in 2020, [9] [13] [5] was the 2020 Miss Washington World and America's Beauty with a Purpose National Ambassador, [14] which is a preliminary competition to Miss World America. In October 2019, Saini collapsed at the Miss World America preliminary. [3]

In 2020, Saini was awarded the World Peace Messenger award from Passion Vista Magazine. [15] On October 2, 2021, Shree Saini was appointed Miss World America 2021, [14] and crowned by Diana Hayden, Miss World 1997. She is the first Indian-American and Asian-American woman to hold the Miss World America title. [16] [2] Shree Saini represented the United States of America at Miss World 2021 in Puerto Rico. [17] In February 2022, the Washington state legislature passed a resolution recognizing Saini's philanthropic achievements and wishing her success at Miss World. [18]

Miss World 2021

Saini was the first runner up at Miss World 2021, with Karolina Bielawska of Poland the winner. [1] She was also chosen as the 2021 Beauty with a Purpose Ambassador to travel with Bielawska during her reign. [19]

Philanthropy

Saini has volunteered with hundreds of nonprofits including the USO, Paralyzed Veterans of America, Make A Wish, UNICEF, Victoria's Voice Foundation, American Heart Association, Children's Right And YOU, Doctors Without Borders, Special Olympics, homeless shelters, and several Anti Human Trafficking nonprofits and she has raised more than $200,000 for dozens of 10 nonprofits, including $50,000 for Variety Children's Charity. She became the first woman from Poland to win the title and the oldest titleholder when she was crowned on 22 November 1989, at the age of 24 years, 244 days before Karolina Bielawska won the said pageant in 2021.

Miss World 1989, the 39th edition of the Miss World pageant, was held on 22 November 1989 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. 78 contestants took part in the pageant. It was the first time in history that Miss World ventured overseas. It was also the first time the Soviet Union has sent a contestant in any major pageant. The winner was Aneta Kręglicka of Polish People's Republic, who was the first Eastern European person to win the competition. She was crowned by Miss World 1988, Linda Pétursdóttir of Iceland.

The United States has continuously sent a representative to Miss World since its inception in 1951. The United States has won the Miss World crown three times in 1973, 1990 and 2010. Currently, Miss World America is the official national pageant that selects the contestant from the United States to Miss World.

Miss Pakistan World is a beauty pageant for women of Pakistani descent from around the world. The event used to be held in Toronto, Canada but has moved to Pakistan and is held annually in Lahore, Pakistan.

Miss India USA is a beauty pageant for young women of Indian descent who are residents of the United States. The pageant was established in 1980 by the India Festival Committee headed by Dharmatma Saran. The winner of the Miss India USA pageant represents the United States at the Miss India Worldwide pageant.

Miss Lebanon 2022, was the 61st edition of the Miss Lebanon pageant, held on July 24, 2022, at Forum de Beyrouth in Beirut, Maya Reaidy crowned her successor Yasmina Zaytoun at the end of the event. Maya Aboul Hosn, who finished as first runner-up, was appointed Miss Universe Lebanon 2023 the following year.

Andrea Aguilera Arroyave is a Colombian beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss World Colombia 2021 and Miss Earth Colombia 2022.
