Sikandar Siddique (born 4 October 1986 in Copenhagen) is a Danish politician who was a member of the Folketing from 2019 to 2022. He was elected in the 2019 Danish general election as a member of The Alternative. He is the co-founder and leader of Independent Greens.
Siddique was elected into parliament in the 2019 election as a member of The Alternative. In March 2020 Siddique and three other members of The Alternative left the party. Siddique founded the new Independent Greens party with Susanne Zimmer and Uffe Elbæk. [1] [2] [3] Siddique was not re-elected in the 2022 Danish general election. [4]
The Folketing,also known as the Parliament of Denmark or the Danish Parliament in English,is the unicameral national legislature (parliament) of the Kingdom of Denmark—Denmark proper together with the Faroe Islands and Greenland. Established in 1849,until 1953 the Folketing was the lower house of a bicameral parliament,called the Rigsdag;the upper house was the Landsting. It meets in Christiansborg Palace,on the islet of Slotsholmen in central Copenhagen.

General elections were held in the Kingdom of Denmark on 5 June 2019 to elect all 179 members of the Folketing;175 in Denmark proper,two in the Faroe Islands and two in Greenland. The elections took place ten days after the European Parliament elections.
The Alternative is a green and pro-European political party in Denmark. The party was publicly launched on 27 November 2013 by former Minister of Culture Uffe Elbæk and Josephine Fock;Elbæk had been a parliamentarian for the Social Liberal Party. Elbæk was the leader of the party until February 2020,where he stepped down and was succeeded by Fock. Currently the party is led by Franciska Rosenkilde. It collaborates with DiEM25 at the European level. The Alternative regards itself as a political movement and a cultural voice,as well as a political party.
Kira Marie Peter-Hansen is a Danish politician. She is a Green Left Member of the European Parliament (MEP) elected in 2019 and 2024. In the 2024 election,she was the lead candidate for the party,which ended up with its best ever result at a national election,getting the most votes with 17.4%. She also received 178,438 personal votes,which was the highest of any candidate in that election. Peter-Hansen is the youngest ever MEP.
