Jakob Ellemann-Jensen (born 25 September 1973) is a Danish former politician who served as Deputy Prime Minister of Denmark and Minister of Defence under Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen from 2022 to 2023. [2] He led the Venstre party from 2019 to 2023. [3]
A member of the Folketing since the 2011 general election, Ellemann-Jensen served as Minister for Environment and Food under Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen from 2018 to 2019. [4] [1] He was spokesman on political affairs for Venstre from 2015 to 2018 and again briefly in 2019. [5]
Ellemann-Jensen was born on 25 September 1973 in Hørsholm, [1] approximately 25 km (15.5 mi) north of Copenhagen. He is the son of former Foreign Minister Uffe Ellemann-Jensen and former editor-in-chief Alice Vestergaard. [1]
Ellemann-Jensen graduated from N. Zahle's School in 1992. He went on to complete his BSc at the Copenhagen Business School in 1999, as well as his MSc in 2002, also at Copenhagen Business School. From 2000 to 2002, he worked as a legal advisor for PricewaterhouseCoopers and from 2002 to 2005 as a lawyer at IBM Denmark, where he later became head of the contract and negotiation department. From 2007 to 2011, he worked as a corporate lawyer for GN Store Nord. [6]
Ellemann-Jensen was first elected into parliament in the 2011 general election, receiving 7,786 votes; [7] he was reelected in the 2015 election with 8,678 votes. [8]
In 2018, Ellemann-Jensen became the Minister for Environment and Food in the third Løkke Rasmussen cabinet. [9]
Ellemann-Jensen was elected again in the 2019 Danish general election, receiving 19,388 votes. [10] After Lars Løkke Rasmussen stepped down as Venstre's party leader after the election, the party elected Ellemann-Jensen as the new leader. [11]
On 15 December 2022, he was appointed minister of defence and deputy prime minister in Mette Frederiksen's second cabinet following the 2022 election. [12]
In February 2023, Ellemann-Jensen announced that he would go on sick leave after having experienced stress symptoms and a brief admission to the hospital; Minister for Economic Affairs Troels Lund Poulsen acted Defence Minister in Ellemann-Jensen's absence. [13] He returned on 1 August 2023. [14] On 23 October 2023, he announced his resignation as party leader and his departure from Danish politics. [15] [16]
Venstre, full name Venstre, Danmarks Liberale Parti, is a conservative-liberal, agrarian political party in Denmark. Founded as part of a peasants' movement against the landed aristocracy, today it espouses an economically liberal, pro-free-market ideology.
Kristian Jensen is a Danish politician who was Minister for Foreign Affairs of Denmark from 2015 to 2016, Minister of Finance from 2016 to 2019 and Minister of Taxation from 2004 to 2010. Jensen is a member of the liberal party Venstre. He briefly served as acting chairman of Venstre in 2019. From 1998 to 2021 he was a member of the Folketing.

Martin Raahauge Borreskov Geertsen is a Danish politician, who is a member of the Folketing for the Venstre political party. He entered parliament in 2018 after Søren Pind resigned his seat. He was previously a member of parliament between 2011 and 2015. He is a former mayor of the Culture Committee in Copenhagen and former political leader of the Venstre party in Copenhagen.
Troels Lund Poulsen is a Danish politician, who is the Deputy Prime Minister of Denmark and leader of Venstre. He also serves as Minister of Defence. He previously served as Minister for the Environment from 2007 to 2010, Minister for Taxation from 2010 to 2011, Minister of Education in 2011, Minister for Commerce, Business and Growth from 2015 to 2016, Minister for Employment from 2016 to 2019, and Minister for Economic Affairs from 2022 to 2023. He has been a member of the Folketing since 2001, representing the Hedensted nomination district.
Lars Løkke Rasmussen is a Danish politician who has served as Minister of Foreign Affairs since 2022. He previously served as the 25th Prime Minister of Denmark from 2009 to 2011 and again from 2015 to 2019. He was the leader of the liberal Venstre party from 2009 to 2019.
Karen Ellemann Kloch, formerly Karen Ellemann Karabian, is a Danish politician, who serves as the current Secretary General of the Nordic Council of Ministers. She was previously a member of the Folketing for the Venstre political party. She is a former minister, having held the positions of Minister of Fisheries, Equality and Nordic Cooperation, Minister of the Environment and Minister of the Interior and Social Affairs.
Vice-Prime Minister of Denmark is an office sometimes held by a minister in the Government of the Kingdom of Denmark. General elections were held in the Kingdom of Denmark on 1 November 2022, except in the Faroe Islands, where they were held on 31 October as 1 November was a national day of mourning for victims at sea. Of the 179 members of the Folketing, 175 were elected in Denmark proper, two in the Faroes and two in Greenland. The elections were called on 5 October following an ultimatum to the government by the Social Liberals due to the outcome of a report on the 2020 Danish mink cull by the Mink Commission, which was critical of the government. Voter turnout was 84% in Denmark, 48% in Greenland, and 71% in the Faroes, with a combined turnout of 84% for the realm as a whole.
The Frederiksen I Cabinet took office on 27 June 2019 and succeeded the Lars Løkke Rasmussen III Cabinet following the 2019 Danish general election. Headed by Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, it was a minority government consisting of the Social Democrats. It relied on parliamentary support from the Red–Green Alliance, the Socialist People's Party, and the Social Liberal Party.

The Moderates is a liberal political party in Denmark founded by former Prime Minister and current Minister of Foreign Affairs Lars Løkke Rasmussen. He announced the name in a foundational speech on 5 June 2021. At the same time, he said that his main scenario was that the party would be formed after the 2021 Danish local elections. The name was, according to Rasmussen, inspired by the fictitious Prime Minister Birgitte Nyborg's party Moderaterne in the hit political TV drama Borgen as well as the Swedish Moderate Party, the then–second largest party in the Swedish Riksdag. The Moderates' political position is referred to as centre to centre-right.
