Southeast Asian Games appearances (overview) | |
Singapore participated at the 2021 Southeast Asian Games held in Hanoi, Vietnam from 12 to 23 May 2022. The Games were postponed in 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. [1]
At the end of the Games, Singapore top the Medal Tally for Bowling, Fencing and Swimming. There were also 5 Games Records, 16 National Records and 41 Personal Best. [2] 62 of the 164 medals were won by debutants.
During the closing ceremony, swimmer Quah Jing Wen was named as one of the MVP of the Games with 6 Gold and 1 Bronze medals. [3]
Singapore sent a total of 424 athletes competing in 33 of 40 sports [4] with 243 of them making their Games debut. [5] No athletes were fielded in Bodybuilding, Futsal, Kurash, Petanque, Sepak Takraw, Vovinam and Weightlifting.

SEA Games, officially known as the South East Asian Games and abbreviated as SEAG, is a biennial multi-sport event involving participants from the current 11 countries of Southeast Asia. The games are under the regulation of the Southeast Asian Games Federation with supervision by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).
Singapore has sent athletes to the celebration of the Olympic Games since 1948, when it was established as a separate British crown colony from the Straits Settlements just over three months before the commencement of the 1948 Summer Olympics. It continued to send a team to the Games until 1964 when the Singaporean delegation competed with Malaysia, which sent a combined team.
Joseph Isaac Schooling is a Singaporean professional swimmer who specialises in butterfly, freestyle and medley events. He was the gold medalist in the 100m butterfly at the 2016 Olympics, achieving Singapore's first ever Olympic gold medal. His winning time of 50.39s broke multiple records at the National, Southeast Asian, Asian and Olympic levels.
The 2021 Southeast Asian Games, officially known as the 31st Southeast Asian Games, 31st SEA Games or SEA Games 31, and also recognized as Viet Nam 2021, was the 31st edition of the Southeast Asian Games, the biennial regional multi-sport event which was held in Hanoi, Vietnam and its surrounding cities from 12 to 23 May 2022.
Yeo Jia Min is a Singaporean badminton player. She is a former World Junior No.1 and the first Singaporean in either the junior or senior categories to made it to the top of the BWF's ranking system.
Terry Hee Yong Kai is a Singaporean badminton player. In mixed doubles with Jessica Tan, Hee won his first World Tour title at the 2022 India Open. They repeated their success at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Soh Rui Yong is a Singaporean national long-distance runner, and holder of four national records: 5,000m, 10,000m, half marathon and marathon. In 2017, Soh became the first Singaporean male marathoner to win back-to-back SEA Games titles when he won gold again at the Southeast Asian Games. He has been enrolled in University College London’s law school since 2021.
Loh Kean Yew is a Malaysian-born Singaporean badminton player. He is the former men's singles world champion, winning the title at the 2021 BWF World Championships, becoming the first Singaporean to achieve this feat.
Singapore participated in the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia from 18 August to 2 September 2018. It was Singapore's 18th appearance at the Asian Games, having competed at every Games since 1951, and claimed 8 gold, 7 silver, and 12 bronze medals at the 2006 Doha, as their best achievement this far. At the last edition of 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea, the country won five gold, 6 silver, and 13 bronze medals.
The football tournament at the 2021 Southeast Asian Games was held from 6 to 22 May 2022 in Vietnam. In addition to the host city Hanoi, matches were held in Việt Trì, Nam Định and Cẩm Phả.

Malaysia participated in the 2021 Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi, Vietnam from 12 to 23 May 2022. The Malaysian contingent consisted of 584 athletes, competing in 37 out 40 sports, 58 percent of which are debutants.

Since then, the country has sent athletes to every edition. The Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) is the National Olympic Committee for Singapore, which also oversees athletes going for the competition.
Indonesia competed at the 2022 ASEAN Para Games in Surakarta, Indonesia. Originally scheduled to take place in 2021, The games were planned amidst the COVID-19 pandemic in Vietnam, posing logistical challenges in organizing the event.
