Maelynn "Skylar" Wallace (born January 4,2000) is an American professional softball player for the Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball. She played college softball at Alabama and Florida. She was named the NFCA National Player of the Year in 2023.
Wallace attended Etowah High School in Woodstock,Georgia. During her high school career she was a four-time Etowah High School MVP,three-time all-state honoree,the 2015 5A Region Player of the Year and 2017 7A Region Player of the Year. She led Etowah High School to a second-place finish at the GHSA State Championship as a senior in 2018. [1] She was ranked No. 3 in FloSoftball Hot 100 ranking for the class of 2018. On November 8,2017,she signed her national letter of intent with Alabama. [2]
Wallace began her collegiate career for Alabama in 2019. During her freshman year she started 68 games at second base,and recorded 49 hits,six doubles,two triples,seven home runs,and 32 run batted in (RBI),with a .295 batting average. Following the season she was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team. [3] During her sophomore year in 2020,she started all 22 games at shortstop,and recorded 24 hits,five doubles,two triples,one home run and 18 RBI,with a .387 batting average,in a season that was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On November 18,2020,it was announced Wallace would transfer to Florida. [4] She had to sit out the 2021 season due to SEC inner-conference transfer rules. [5]
During her junior year in 2023,she led the SEC in batting average (.447),slugging percentage (.980),and triples (8),ranked second in on-base-percentage (.595),runs (72),total bases (147),walks (51) and stolen bases (30),and ranked third in home runs (19). She led NCAA Division I in slugging percentage and ranked second in on-base percentage. [6] She was the only player in the nation with 65 or more hits,70 or more runs,55 or more RBI,50 or more walks and 30 or more stolen bases. She set the Florida single-season record in batting average,slugging percentage and on base percentage. [7] On April 14,2023,she recorded a career-high four hits,three home runs and seven RBI in a game against Georgia. She set the Florida single-game record with three home runs and 13 total bases,while her seven RBI were tied for third most by a Florida player in a single game. [8] [9] Following the season she was named SEC Player of the Year and NFCA National Player of the Year. [10] [11] She was also named a unanimous first team NFCA all-American selection. [12]
During the 2024 SEC tournament,she hit .778 (7-for-9) with five runs scored,three home runs and nine RBI. She hit in three runs during the championship game and was named tournament MVP. Her nine RBI and three home runs were the most by any player in a single SEC tournament. [13]
Wallace was drafted sixth overall in the 2024 AU Pro Softball College Draft. [14] On July 9,2024,she signed with Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball for the 2024 season. [15]
Wallace was born to Lynn and Kim Wallace,and has one sibling,a brother Cullen. [1]
Kelly Sue Kretschman is an American former nine-time professional All-Star softball outfielder and current head coach for the USSSA Pride of the Women's Professional Fastpitch (WPF). Kretschman played college softball at Alabama where she is the career leader in doubles and total bases. As a member of the United States women's national softball team,she won a gold medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics and a silver medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics. She also played in the National Pro Fastpitch with four teams including her longest tenure with the USSSA Pride;where she is the all-time career leader in RBIs,hits,doubles and base on balls. She also owns numerous records for the Tide and is one of select NCAA Division I players to bat .400 with 300 hits,200 runs and 100 stolen bases for her career.
The Florida Gators softball team represents the University of Florida in the sport of softball. Florida competes in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) and the Southeastern Conference (SEC). The Gators play their home games at Katie Seashole Pressly Softball Stadium on the university's Gainesville,Florida campus,and are currently led by head coach Tim Walton. In the twenty-six year history of the Florida Softball program,the team has won two Women's College World Series (WCWS) national championships,nine SEC regular season championships,five SEC tournament championships,and have made eleven WCWS appearances.
Kaitlin Elizabeth Cochran is an American,former collegiate four-time first team All-American,retired softball player. She attended Rosary High School and Arizona State University from 2006 to 2009,where she won the 2008 Women's College World Series title. Also with United States women's national softball team,she won four World Cup of Softball crowns. She holds various records for the Sun Devils in the Pac-12 Conference. She was drafted first overall in the National Pro Fastpitch but elected not to play. She is also one of nine NCAA Division I players to bat .400 with 200 RBIs,50 home runs and an .800 slugging percentage for a career.
Sierra Joy Romero is an American professional softball player. She formerly was a volunteer assistant softball coach for the Oregon Ducks softball team. She played college softball for Michigan from 2013 to 2016,where she set numerous records and was a four-time All-American. She holds the Big Ten Conference career Triple Crown,along with the total bases and slugging percentage records,simultaneously leading all of the NCAA Division I in runs scored and grand slams. She was the inaugural winner of both the espnW Softball Player of the Year in 2015 and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Player of the Year in 2016,when she also took home the Honda Sports Award Softball Player of the Year and USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year awards. She is one of nine NCAA players to hit .400 with 200 RBIs,50 home runs and an .800 slugging percentage for her career and was named the #5 Greatest College Softball Player.
Kelly Katlyn Barnhill is an American professional softball pitcher. She played college softball for the Florida Gators from 2016 to 2019,earning All-American honors during her tenure with the team. She was named the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year,Honda Sports Award,and espnW Player of the Year in 2017. She is the career no hitters (7),strikeouts,strikeout ratio (10.5) and WHIP leader for the Gators. She also ranks in career strikeout ratio for both the Southeastern Conference and the NCAA Division I.
Michelle Moultrie is an American professional softball outfielder for the Oklahoma City Spark of the Women's Professional Fastpitch (WPF). She played college softball at Florida,where she was named SEC Player of the Year in 2012. She has been a member of United States women's national softball team since 2011 and competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics and won a silver medal. She also played in the Athletes Unlimited Softball league.
Dejah Monique Mulipola is an American professional softball catcher. She played college softball at Arizona,where she was named a First Team All-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) in 2019 and 2021. She is a member of the United States women's national softball team,winning a silver medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics. She played in Athletes Unlimited Softball,where she won the 2022 championship as the top individual points leader.
Kelsey Stewart is an American softball player. She won two softball National Championships with Florida Gators softball and has been named a Second Team and two-time First Team All-SEC player,including being named 2015 SEC Player of the Year. She was also chosen a National Fastpitch Coaches Association First Team All-American in 2014–15. She graduated as a member of the select 300 hits,200 runs,100 stolen bases club. She has been of the United States women's national softball team since 2014. She was a member of the national softball team that won the silver medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics. She later played in the Athletes Unlimited Softball and in 2021 was the third best individual points leader for the league.
Jocelyn Aloha Pumehana Alo is an American professional softball player for the Oklahoma City Spark of the Association of Fastpitch Professionals (APF). She played college softball for the Oklahoma Sooners. Alo was named 2018 NFCA National Freshman of the Year,and named USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year in 2021 and 2022. She is the NCAA Division I career leader in home runs. Alo was drafted first overall by the Smash It Vipers in the inaugural WPF draft.
Tiare Rose Jennings is an American professional softball player for the Oklahoma City Spark of the Association of Fastpitch Professionals (APF). She played college softball for the Oklahoma Sooners. As a freshman in 2021,she was named NFCA National Freshman of the Year and Softball America Freshman of the Year. While at Oklahoma she won the Women's College World Series championship four consecutive years.
Bailey Marie Hemphill is a former American All-American softball player for the Alabama Crimson Tide. She currently holds the Alabama record for the most career home runs hit with 64,as well as the SEC record for most career walks with 237.
Maya Ann Brady-Timmons is an American college softball player for the UCLA Bruins. As a freshman in 2020,she was named Softball America Freshman of the Year.
Jayda Coleman is an American professional softball player for the Oklahoma City Spark of the Association of Fastpitch Professionals (AFP). She played college softball at Oklahoma where she won the Women's College World Series championship four consecutive years. She also represented the United States at the 2019 U-19 Women's Softball World Cup and USA Softball International Cup.
Amanda Lorenz is an American professional softball player and member of the United States women's national softball team. She played college softball at Florida,where she was named NFCA National Freshman of the Year in 2016. Following her college career,she played professionally for USSSA Pride. She most recently played in the Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball league where she won the 2024 championship as the top individual points leader.
