Snake Rewind is a freemium mobile arcade video game developed and published by Rumilus Design and was released in May 2015 for iOS, Android and Windows Phone. [2] Taneli Armanto, the developer behind the Snake game included by default in many Nokia phones that were produced 1997 and 1998, partnered with Rumilus Design to create this app. [3] [4] The game received positive and mixed reception from critics because of the glitchy control scheme.

Gameplay

In Snake Rewind the player controls a snake-like dot or line and must try to collect the fruits that spawn around the playing field while trying to stay inside the boarded plane and not accidentally running into the snake itself. [5] As the player moves forwards, the snake will leave a trail of where it has been thus the player must choose carefully where they want to go. The main area where Snake Rewind differs from the original Snake game is ability to rewind time when the snake dies. The rewind ability is used by spending fruit, the games currency. [6] The game features power ups and 10 different areas to play in. [7]

Development

Taneli Armanto, the creator of the first snake game released onto Nokia phones in 1997 and 1998 paired with Rumilus Design in order to create the game. Armanto said in a press release that the game took the "iconic elements and intuitive gameplay from the original snake game" and combined it with special effects, sounds and "innovative new features" [8] Although the price was never revealed until the day of release, people speculated using the information they had been given that it would be a free-to-play mobile game with microtransactions. [9] When the game was released it proved these speculations right. The microtransactions were through the in-game shop called the "Fruit Store". [3]

Reception

Snake Rewind received mixed acclaim from critics because of the "broken" control scheme. Jennifer Allen, a 148Apps writer criticized the control scheme saying "there’s a choice of swipes or taps but neither entirely succeeds" and can sometime result in failures that weren't entirely the players fault. [10] The game was also called "nostalgic" by reviewers because it kept the original gameplay mechanics. [11] [12] WMPoweruser writer, Jay Asimhabr gave the game an 8/10 because of the poor controls but said the game was nostalgic in its own right. [13] Jordan Devore, a writer at Destructoid said the original snake game did not need a modern-day sequel. [9]

JellyCar is the first in a series of driving and platforming video games developed by Tim FitzRandolph and released under the pseudonym Walaber. Initially released independently through Xbox Live Indie Games and later ported to devices using Apple's iOS operating system, JellyCar requires players to drive a car across a two-dimensional landscape while maintaining balance by means of accelerometers. The game features soft body physics that give it its distinctive gameplay and style. JellyCar's success led FitzRandolph's employer at the time, Disney Interactive Studios, to pick up the series and release two sequels for multiple platforms. FitzRandolph, now an independent developer, is currently working on a new sequel, JellyCar Worlds, with permission from Disney.

Kiloo Games is a Danish video game developer. It was founded in 2000 by Jacob Møller, with a focus on developing entertainment content for game console and handheld devices. In 2008, he was joined by his brother, Simon Møller. Together, they both run Kiloo.

Terraria is an action-adventure sandbox game developed by Re-Logic. The game was first released for Windows on May 16, 2011, and has since been ported to several other platforms. The Lumia 610 has a curvy, metallic design. Like the Lumia 710, it comes in cyan, magenta, black and white. The black and magenta version have a rubberized back instead of the glossy back as found in the white and cyan version of this phone.

Halo: Spartan Assault is a twin stick shooter video game developed by 343 Industries and Vanguard Games. Part of the Halo media franchise, the game was released on July 18, 2013, for Microsoft's Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 platforms. The game subsequently released on Xbox 360, Xbox One, Steam, and iOS. Halo: Spartan Assault is set between the events of Halo 3 and Halo 4. Pokémon Shuffle is a freemium puzzle video game developed by Genius Sonority and published by Nintendo and The Pokémon Company for the Nintendo 3DS. The game, which is a spin-off of the Pokémon series and is similar in gameplay to Pokémon Battle Trozei, was released worldwide on the Nintendo eShop on February 18, 2015. History of mobile games

The popularisation of mobile games began as early as 1997 with the introduction of Snake preloaded on Nokia feature phones, demonstrating the practicality of games on these devices. Several mobile device manufacturers included preloaded games in the wake of Snake's success. In 1999, the introduction of the i-mode service in Japan allowed a wide variety of more advanced mobile games to be downloaded onto smartphones, though the service was largely limited to Japan. By the early 2000s, the technical specifications of Western handsets had also matured to the point where downloadable applications could be supported, but mainstream adoption continued to be hampered by market fragmentation between different devices, operating environments, and distributors.
