The soricine brucie (Brucepattersonius soricinus) is a rodent species from South America. It is found in Brazil.
The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species, founded in 1964, is the world's most comprehensive inventory of the global conservation status of biological species. It uses a set of criteria to evaluate the extinction risk of thousands of species and subspecies. These criteria are relevant to all species and all regions of the world. With its strong scientific base, the IUCN Red List is recognized as the most authoritative guide to the status of biological diversity. A series of Regional Red Lists are produced by countries or organizations, which assess the risk of extinction to species within a political management unit.
Brucepattersonius is a genus of rodents within the tribe Akodontini from southeastern South America. Also known as brucies, the genus is named after Bruce Patterson, MacArthur Curator at the Department of Zoology (Mammals), at the Field Museum of Natural History, Chicago.
The rodent subfamily Sigmodontinae includes New World rats and mice, with at least 376 species. Many authorities include the Neotominae and Tylomyinae as part of a larger definition of Sigmodontinae. When those genera are included, the species count numbers at least 508. Their distribution includes much of the New World, but the genera are predominantly South American, such as brucies. They invaded South America from Central America as part of the Great American Interchange near the end of the Miocene, about 5 million years ago. Sigmodontines proceeded to diversify explosively in the formerly isolated continent. They inhabit many of the same ecological niches that the Murinae occupy in the Old World.
Brucepattersonius igniventris, also known as the red-bellied akodont or red-bellied brucie, is a South American rodent in the genus Brucepattersonius. It is known only from a few specimens from the type locality in Iporanga, São Paulo, Brazil. Although it is threatened by habitat loss, it is protected by Alto Ribeira Tourist State Park.
Brucepattersonius iheringi, also known as Ihering's akodont, Ihering's hocicudo, or Ihering's brucie, is a South American rodent in the genus Brucepattersonius. It occurs in Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul, southern Brazil, and nearby Misiones Province, Argentina.
Eupleres is a genus of two species of mongoose-like euplerid mammal native to Madagascar. They are primarily terrestrial and consume mainly invertebrates.
A species that is extinct in the wild (EW) is one that has been categorized by the International Union for Conservation of Nature as known only by living members kept in captivity or as a naturalized population outside its historic range due to massive habitat loss.
The Somali dwarf shrew is a species of mammal in the family Soricidae. It is found in Ethiopia and Somalia. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical dry lowland grassland.
The moon forest shrew is a species of mammal in the family Soricidae. It is found in Burundi, Rwanda, and Uganda. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forests.
The volcano shrew is a species of mammal in the family Soricidae found in the high-altitude rainforest of Burundi, eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, and Uganda. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist montane forests and swamps. Its type locality is Rwanda, Parc National des Volcans, Karisoke.
Brucepattersonius guarani, also known as the Guaraní akodont or Guaraní brucie, is a South American rodent in the genus Brucepattersonius. It is known from a single specimen from Misiones Province in northeastern Argentina, at the southern end of the Atlantic Forest. The species is protected by Moconá Provincial Park but is threatened by deforestation in nearby areas.
Brucepattersonius misionensis, also known as the Misiones akodont or Misiones brucie, is a rodent species from South America in the genus Brucepattersonius. It is known from a single individual collected in Misiones Province in northeastern Argentina. Its taxonomic status remains to be determined conclusively. It is threatened by habitat loss and is not known from any protected areas.
The Arroyo of Paradise brucie, also known as the Arroyo of Paradise akodont is a South American rodent species of the family Cricetidae. It is known only from northeastern Argentina. No population data is available for the species; it is threatened by deforestation and has not been found in any protected area.
